Hey i just washed my car today to get the caked on salt off, and when i was wiping the inside of my trunk lid i noticed that my car has the electric motor used to open the trunk latch. Then i looked to see if i had that little black box up in the corner of the back of the back seat and there was something there. The thing now, is that i don't have keyless entry, the car (bought used) didn't come with the remotes, and my door doesn't have the keypad, but i don't see why the car would have the motor for the trunk latch, and the wiring that goes with it (that goes from the motor to the rear deck). So i guess what i'm asking is, is this normal to have the motor, and possibly the black module, without having keyless entry? I was thinking maybe they were just put in by mistake at the factory or something and the keypad was never wired. I'm hoping anyway, i want keyless entry. Well i'll throw some pictures up to show you guys what i mean. Anyhelp would be great, thanks for reading my novel.

definately looks like an after thought the previous owner had put on..my dads 93 had keyless entry and i dont think it had anything looking like that. And i think all sho's have some sort of black box back there..but the keyless entry ones are A LOT bigger and have A LOT more wires going to it.

Why thats there? i have no clue

The green wire goes into the black box? or is there some hidden switch somewhere?

That is the module that non-keyless cars have. It is odd that you have the trunk lock acuator though....

Look under the dash...there may be a foreign piece of electronic equipment called an alarm/keyless entry of some sorts.

hey i just thought of something else that was odd. Do all of you guys have a little red plastic light that sits on the dash right to the right of the climate controls(in the black part of the dash)? I noticed a few pics of cars that didn't have this, but i guess they could just be a different year or something. ok thanks

Here's what i'm talking about

definately looks like you have an aftermarket alarm/keyless entry system. the light on your dash should blink (or stay lit completely) when its armed..but if you have no key fobs then you very well can't arm it. Is there another switch that looks out of place anywhere else inside the cabin..maybe down by the drivers side foot well. Most aftermarket alarms i've seen will always have a "valet-mode switch"

If you can find out what kind of alarm it is..maybe you can get replacement key fobs  . now wouldnt that be a nice surprise :)

There is/was an aftermarket alarm system with key remotes. Look under the hood. See a bullhorn looking thing or an unusual sound box? It was probably disabled becuase it was killing the battery, killing the owner, or the owner lost the remotes.

I had one in my first car, a 1996 Geo Tracker LSi :thumb: . It had an aftermarket Viper system (only God knows why my Dad bothered to have it installed!). The remotes always acted funny and the alarm was always going off and the sequence to reset it was ridiculous. So, I disarmed it and kept the remotes functional. I then lost one of the two...

Just a scenario.

The green wire doesn't go into the box. IT just travels under the rug, to somewhere. I can't find it anywhere else on the car, including under the hood

ahh..well, my aftermarket alarm is tucked up under the dash..cant see any of it unless you contort your body and look up inside there.

I dont hardly use mine anymore..i have to dig out the shock sensor cause when i first put it in it was WAY too sensative. But i still love the keyless door unlock.
