ok, so I decided to go ahead and re-charge my K&N as i wrangled my oxygen sensors.
i brushed, cleaner'd, washed, and then set it aside as i changed out the o2 sensors (BTW, the one farther back (left?) behind my tranny was a royal PAIN IN THE ASS).
that took about 45 minutes all together, then i grabbed the aresol and sprayed down the filter.

i let it sit...and now it seems to be dripping a clear fluid...and i think its probably water. is this normal? i went ahead and sprayed it down again with oil to make sure i got it under control...any tips before i put the filter back on the car later this evening? the water that seems to be forced out by the oil is kinda bugging me...

You may not have let it dry long enough. You said it took about 45 minutes to do the 02 sensors. I don't think that would be adequate time. I believe it took mine about an hour and I had it on the backside of a fan. Just to be on the safe side, I would use the cleaner again and let it dry, then re-oil it. Wouldn't want hydrolock....may not be enough water, but I wouldn't take the chance.

actually, i put enuff oil in that it kicked the water out it seems...but then there was too much oil.

so i left it on end for like 3 hours to let the excess oil drain to one end, and wiped it away every 1/2 hr or so. in the end when there wasnt any more pooling of k&n oil, i stuck it on.

Yeah, your suppose to let the filter dry completely. I let mine dry overnight, usually outside where it's exposed to a breeze. Then the next day give it a light spray of oil, leave that soak for a few minutes then go back and spray any spots I missed. They put the red dye in the oil so you can see where you've sprayed and where you've missed.

From your description, it sounds like your filter may have too much oil in it. Maybe after a few days of driving you should clean your MAF with TB or brake cleaner incase any oil has fouled up the sensor filiments.

Yeah, I let mine dry overnight and just have an extra $9.00 paper filter on hand if I need to drive the car.

Be careful not to over oil it. You should check the TB and MAF for any oil residue and clean it out.

You'll soon be getting better gas miliage with those new O2's. I certainly did.

I've heard the same. I'm gonna listen to these guys when I reoil mine. You should do the same. You could screw up the sensor at the bottom of the airbox by fouling it up with oil. Might as well hit that with some contact cleaner.

Yeah, go to Radio Shack and get some electrical contact cleaner. Simply spray it on and walk away.

ok thanks. i grabbed some 'electronic cleaner' from advance auto b/c the shack was closed. sprayed it on the maf and in that little hole thingy (which is where i assume the sensor is)

we'll see tomorrow what the results look like.

well gravy. after the k&N oil but before the cleaner, i had a couple stalls and general engine dificulty. today: no stalls, not even a sputter or anything.
so the elec cleaner did the job.
Thanks!
