As the title says I've just gotten home from a nice long road trip, and I have to say that the car did very well. I left shortly before Christmas to drive from MD down to FL to spend the holidays with family. After the New Year I then started West for San Diego (hadn't seen that city during my time as a truck driver, and everyone always says it's very nice) and then up to LA to help a friend move stuff from the West Coast to the East. I rented a 5x8 U-Haul and the SHO did very well as a tow vehicle. Even driving through the mountains getting out of LA the temp barely fluctuated. The fuel mileage obviously took a dive, but that is to be expected...instead of my usual 380-400 miles to the tank I was getting about 260. I dropped my friend (and her stuff) off back in FL and then drove home. That winter storm that hit yesterday did slow my return by a bit, but overall I had very nice weather the entire time. Tomorrow I'll take it in for another service (had one done just before leaving FL the first time so I'm only a little over my goal of 5k intervals) and while there I'll have them look at the power steering pump. I heard a slight hum the other day and want it checked out. Anyone else done any long road trips with their SHO's?

Last summer I did roughly 3800 miles round-trip. It was fun.
You definitely have me beat.

Not my SHO, but my daughter drove from Temecula, CA to Newnan, GA in her '13 Flex EB, towing a U-Haul trailer. Only issue was a battery failure, which she and her sister changed themselves. I've made a few trips from Northern Virginia to Nashville, Newnan, and Sarasota, but no cross-country.

Wisconsin to Outer Banks, NC and back in early October.
Whole thing was right around 3,000 miles.
Aside from a few smokey starts (didn't have my catch can installed yet), and a nail in a tire, it ran and drove like a champ.

I did Mpls MN, to Colorado Springs and back, a few years ago. Debated about a rental w/ unlimited mileage, vs driving the SHO. Figured any p.o.s. that I might have got from a rental place was not going to be anywhere near as comfortable as the SHO, and landed there ultimately.

Had issue when I had bug guts splattered on the windshield, the camera was obscured enough that I got some stability control error message that I had/have never seen before or again. Guessing that was the cause as it went away after I cleaned the windshield. Maybe total coincidence?!?!?! But setting cruise at 80 was nice, the car never felt like it was working hard at all. Oh, and the adaptive cruise was neat when we'd roll up on a road work area or something similar, never had to bother with brakes, and then it would pick right back up as soon as traffic cleared. Flying thru some of those boring Nebraska back roads at 85 MPH made the trip more fun, even if it hurt my MPG.

Not even close my longest trip was from Colorado springs to Alabama during the summer the gearhead intercooler definitely helped.

That’s admirable! In the Summer of ’16 I took my 2013 SHO from Lafayette LA to see Dead and Company in Boulder CO for the July 4th weekend pair. After visiting area friends during the non-concert hours I knocked off my last Lower 48 with SD, ND and MN, the long ways. Arrived in time for Sunday dinner with a buddy’s family in Rochester NY. Following a few days with them I saw another in Syracuse NY. Then on to the family home on Cape Cod. A month there. Drove back to Lafayette in August. Total of about 6500 miles. At my age that’ll be the last big one. The goals are more modest now.

Good timing on your post, I just drove Wausau, WI to Dallas, TX with a stop in St. Louis and will be returning on Monday. I was very close to putting my summer rims and tires on but thought better of it so I am running my Blizzak's with cop rims as I will more thank likely hit snow on the way back. Pretty smooth ride even going 90 at times. Such a great car to drive on long trips, and pretty comfy when you stop for a quick cat nap. People do drive like sh*t in Dallas and had to slam on the brakes a few times for people weaving in an out of traffic like its a video game. Had a guy in a decked out Ford Fusion want to race in Missouri which didn't end well for the Fusion. Must of thought I was an SEL because I ditched all the trunk badges. Love my Ortiz stage 1 tune, car runs great.

Speaking of a tune...I've been holding off doing anything to my bone stock non-PP till GH had their Performance Intercooler back in stock (I am on the email list) so I could just do everything in visit to the shop. But should I just go ahead and do the plugs/3-Bar/Tune now instead of waiting? What is the likely timeline for getting an intercooler?

I would do the plugs/bar/tune, it will be aTune, before they get them in then it is first come first serve, I believe when I ordered mine I was on the wait list for 8 or 9 months.

About 4 years ago my wife and I drove from central Texas to Ft. Jackson SC. On the way back we dropped of our son at Ft Gordon and headed back home. It put about 3500 miles on the odometer and drove perfectly the whole way. I had just put in an LMS tune and I dove using all 3 tunes and also without it. I actually got a couple to few more MPG using the tunes, 25 mpg vs 22-23 mpg. No issues at all and was a very comfortable ride.

@Cheesehead, yes they drive like sh*t in Dallas!

Those all sound like nice trips!
<-- I took the SHO (gen II) to the SHOklahoma meet in Tulsa, ended up at almost 4000 miles round trip from CA. It was very close to stock then. Didn't quite confirm the official top speed in a deserted valley on Hwy 50 in NV but it was close. It was 4000+ elevation IIRC, I am not sure of which valley, it could have been 5000+. The drag apparently drops off faster than the horsepower, I was just shy of a buck.forty and still climbing when I started running out of valley. The mileage is better at high elevation too.

True, I live in NE and it's insanely boring here. Know anywhere entertaining where the rent is cheap? Lol

Depending on which tuner you go with, they should offer revisions as you go. Some charge after a time span, others offer complimentary revisions on parts you buy from them, and some will revise for anything after the initial purchase.

The tune itself is the #1 mod you can do for these cars, followed by the XDI fuel pump. I would recommend that if you really want the intercooler set aside funds for it but continue your journey without it then add it when you can. Meth is also a great option but does take up some space and you have to check it periodically to ensure no leaks or gumming. Meth will be way more consistent than the intercooler, and the initial investment is a cost savings but depending on your settings and how often you use it, you'll be refilling the tank and may lose that cost savings.
