And I R has sum kwestions! :nut:

First off, I have decided to go with the Cobra calipers on the Gen 3 11.6 inch rotors. With that said, I started to read the how to for this option as well as every reply below it.

In the how to section, it says to use the banjo bolts from the stock caliper. So that means my banjo bolt from my 95 SHO caliper will work with the Cobra/Mach1 caliper?

What exactly is a Z sized drill bit?

I don't feel safe driving a car with weakened knuckles so I am choosing to have the bracket notched so that it will fit flush with the knuckle. However, later in the thread (pg 2 i think) someone said that after you redrill the mounting holes .7" up from the stock holes, you can then chop off the bottom where the old holes were instead of just grinding 1/4" off. Is this true? How much will I need to have the machine shop cut off?

I also read the part where Zak (i think) was calculating the sweep area of the Cobra pads versus the stock gen 3 pads noting that the gen 3 pads have a 5% larger area per rotation than the Cobra pads do. However, someone countered that the Cobra caliper is better at heat management and thus makes up for the smaller sweep area and then some. Is this true? Someone said that a 11.6 with the Cobra caliper is no better than your plain jane gen 3 upgrade. Is this true?

I am sure I am forgetting some questions so I will update this later as they come back to me. However, feel free to post any other necessary info. Those of you who have done this swap are encouraged to post with your findings and problems you encountered during the swap.

EDIT: Is anyone having problems with the stock taurus master cylinder when it comes to the larger caliper displacement?

Also, will the Earls SS Brake Lines be compatible with this brake swap? I just dropped some money on a set and if they wont work with the cobra/11.6, i will just stick to the gen 3 swap.

Cobra's on 11.6'' >>>96' Upgrade.

For the little modifcation you have to do, the rewards, which are many, are well worth it. Lighter calipers, better heat control, better brake modulation, etc. etc...

Pads are alittle pricey though, mainly high performance pads, and the rotors are alittle on the hefty side(not really a bad thing).

Can't really recall all of the details of the swap, it's been awhile since I've done it....

My setup- Cobra's/11.6'', PFCM Pads, Earls' SS lines.

Hope that helps.

Your banjo bolts will fit as long as the Cobra calipers are post ~2004 production.

Z size is just a letter gauge drill bit. Your machine shop will know what it is.

Just notch the brackets, you'll need to come up to about the middle of the original hole.

For a daily driver, there is probably zero difference between a stock caliper on '96 rotors compared to a Cobra caliper. Of course the Cobras look 10000% better.

No master problems.

Earls will work, you'll probably need to cut off the stupid strain relief bracket and spring setups they have on them to keep the line from getting too taught. I've done this on every set of Earls I've ever installed on cars with the '96 upgrade or Cobras. You may need to grind down one side of the blocks on the Earls lines to get the banjo bolt threaded into the caliper.

No problems with the master cylinder.
My earls lines fit fine with the spring even with 17x8" wheels.
You can cut the extra part off the bracket, as that is what is done when using these brackets on the 12.5 corvette rotor setup. That being said, you are removing only a little material from the knuckle, and I have done multiple track days, along with many, many, many, miles of daily driving and have not noticed any effect from grinding the knuckle. ****, the 91 knuckles are chopped to death for use with the 12.5" kit and no one has had problems with them.
I have since spaced my calipers back out for use with 13" rotors, which is something that you cant do if you chop the bottom of the bracket off. New brackets are $150.
