I just completed the following.

-Removed Intake manifold to re-gasket
-Changed timing belt
-Changed water-pump
-Changed crank Position Sensor
-Removed cam covers to correct spark plug well oil leak.

When I attempt to start the car, it cranks harsher than usual. It sounds like the timing is off, but I'm sure that I replaced the belt correctly. I had it lined up & I just replaced the belt without doing anything else.

I wen't around looking for loose connectors/vacuum hoses to no avail...I'm getting to wits end with this car...Any Ideas?

EDIT: The tach shows around 400RPM when I crank it, and the firing order is right on.

Recheck the belt. It sounds alot like timing. Also check the DIS ground at the intake bolts.

Thanks, I'm starting to pull everything back off again, but it's getting dark now, so it won't be done until tomorow. I quadrouple checkced the ground wire. I too am pretty sure now that it's timing related, but I still don't understand how I could mess it up. Neither the crank, nor the cam pulleys were moved even the slightest bit with the belt off.

How easy would it be to damage the crankshaft sensor's pulse wheel? Is that also referred to as a "shutter"? I dropped a tiny screw behind the crank sprocket, maybe I damaged it when I got it out? How can I tell if I damaged it?

Oh, and it was a remanufactured water-pump.

If it cranks harsher than usual you probably have a timing issue due to the belt change. It's very easy to have a cam sprocket slip out of position without noticing it when you take the belt off that's why you gotta double check everything while putting it back on. An easier way to check the positions of the cam sprockets according to the correct timing is to pull the upper timing belt covers and then set the crank pulley to 0 degrees BTDC. Both cam sprockets marks should line up with the marks on the rear part of the upper timing belt cover. If they are both at the 6 o'clock position rotate the crankshaft one more time until the white mark lines up with the 0 degree spot on the lower cover. If both cam sprocket marks aren't at the 12 o'clock position then one of them slipped outta place during reinstallation. Good luck

this happened to me and it turned out to be one of the bolts on the crossover tube on the intake. make sure they are both the same length bc they provide ground for DIS

I did change one of the bolts that hold down the crossover, I'm going to go change it now.

I just swaped the not-original cross-over bolt, and the car actually started! But, It ran like absolute crap though, although, It seemed to crank better. It idled at 700 RPM

Ideas now? The ground behind the pass. side of the intake is connected really good. Should I try running another ground strap somewhere else? I'm still going to check the timing once there's light tomorow.
