car has 180k on it and may or may not have ever had the overhead done on it. Cars starts and runs fine, but doesn't want to rev beyond 3800 or so rpms. It will pull smoothly up to 5000-5500 if you are very easy with the throttle, but under WOT it does nothing just makes a sort of blaaaah noise. Acts like it isn't getting fuel. I haven't gotten around to replacing the fuel filter yet, but can't imagine that is the cause of this. Car was well maintained by previous owner, always ran synthetic, dealership did the maintainence. I have to assume the 60k service was done, but there are no receipts for it. There are no engine codes. Car does not run hot. It will cruise down the interstate at 90 with no problems. Valves are not noisy. Engine runs very smooth and quiet, but there is nothing there past 1/2 throttle.

It's actually this car http://www.shoforum.com/showthread.php?t=31704 I believe what Coil99 attributed to the tender tranny is actually the problem I referenced above.

1. In park or neutral the computer limits the engine to 4000 rpm.

2. It's easy and worthwhile to pull the plug wires off (front 3 are really easy and only will take a minute or two) to see if there is any oil in the plug wells. That would be a good thing for everyone to know up front.

EDIT: When removing plug wires DON'T pull on the wires. Twist and pull on the square boot top only!

You may want to check the catalytic converters for loose parts. Tap gently on the two cats with a wooden broom or hammer handle and listen for any rattles. I'm not refering to loose heat shields, but to damaged ceramic matrix inside the cat. This would restrict exhaust flow at the higher exhaust flow (power) levels.

Just because the dealer did the maintainence doesn't mean it is all up to par, and done correctly for that matter.

Plug boots are all dry. Based on prior experience with solid lifts, when they get out of adjustment enough you can hear them. I can't imagine the SHO is any different. I'm inclined to think it is in the fuel system. Do the IMRCs on these get gummed up like the 4.6 Cobra engines? I've had a couple of them and the IMRC system was somewhat problematic, but that was mainly due to the PCV system.

I wonder if the secondaries are not opening. Do you hear a distinct difference in the sound of the engine at 4000 RPM?
