Well, today it was so beautiful I decided to do my oil change and clean out my engine bay. It's hard to believe all the crap that accumulates in there over such a short period of time.

I'm cleaning away, feeling very good about my car and glad that I was finally getting around to cleaning stuff up under there. And really enjoying the sunshine and decently warm (40° or so) weather. So I start on the rear of the intake and firewall area and I see that very familiar rubbed spot on the rear passenger corner of the intake. I rubbed it some more just to make sure my eyes weren't fooling me. Wish they had been. Guess it's motor mount time.

Question: Should I just spring for all of them and get it overwith, or should I just replace the one for now to get me by for a couple of months. I really don't want to do them all because that would mean no paint job on Wednesday.... :(

Any pointers out there would be appreciated.

Bizzy, I thought the motor mount spot was on the front surge tank? Under power it's the front of the engine that tries to lift. A spot on the rear means the rear mount may be bad. Anything loose or hanging from the hood? The mounts are not that hard to replace. Be sure to get new bolts, the long ones that go thru the mount break a lot.

if there is a price break on all 3 shonut mounts, I'd say spring for it. The front and rear are relatively easy, I just used a floor jack and a piece of plywood to distribute the weight x the oil pan to lift up the engine enough to swap the mounts out. The tranny is kinda tricky lining the holes up, but that's the only hard part with it. Good luck!

Bizzy: I just happened to change my motor mounts on my car. I went with SHONUTS reinforced MM's. Anyways, My rear motor mount is in good shape. I changed it just because. I just happened to keep my rear mount since it was like new. What I'm trying to get at here is that I'll get it to you really really cheap, if you know what I mean. That way you can just worry about your paint job.

Can't a broken tranny mount cause the back of the motor to move also? I'm not sure which side this tends to affect but I'd make sure which is the real culprit before replacing. burn_out

The tranny mount would make the TB area rub.
