This noise started after racing an integra and going to redline a few times.I normally baby this car.At first i hoped it was a timing belt tensioner but the belt is VERY tight. The noise is a lot "lighter"than it sounds in the video.Whats weird is the car hasnt lost any performance or drivability.Ok,so give it to me straight. No matter how i try i cannot get this small enough to put on here. Can i email this to someone to listen to it?

If you think it may be crank cancer, do the work now and pull it apart to find out... Or, Just torque the crap out of the crank bolt.

How long in minutes is the video and how big is the file? I can PM you login info to one of my ftp accounts if you want.

Depending on how bad the cancer is, it can and does make noise as it progresses. My son's 95 had crank caner which we didn't know about at first. This is the video/audio from this past summer. Please excuse the tone in my voice at the beginning of this vid, I was a little more than annoyed at the time. :frown: His car's cancer has since been repaired and so far, so good so.

The audio/video in this link is flash, if you don't have flash you won't be able to view it.

:laugh_ti: Dammit -turn It On!!-Bizzy Thats funny

Sounded pretty bad. Mine never sounded like that - It made no sound at all. The "cancer" went about its business very quietly. I'm glad I found it by the off chance while I was looking for an oil leak.

Good luck.

Bizzy,i believe its no more than a minute long.I have actually listened to your sons car many times and mine sounds different.Mine actaully sounds like a loose pulley clanging around but i have checked them.I am to the point with this car that i pretty much have made up my mind to sell.

Just because your timing belt is tight, doesn't necessarily mean one of your timing pulleys(idler or tensioner...if the SHO has a timing idler) isn't going bad. Take the cover off and get a mechanic's stethoscope, and touch it to the non-rotating part of the pulley while it's running. You should be able to find it somewhat easily. Taking the belt off and spinning the pulleys by hand is the best way to find it, though.

Really?I thought it would be loose if the car was off.I have been terrified to work on this car.I have owned 40+ cars and this is the only engine that intimidates the crap out of me.Between the tight space and afraid of making things worse/not being able to get it back together.

it's no different than any other engine out there, except for that freaky lookin intake manifold sitting on top. Yeah, it's a little tight, but otherwise not at all too bad.

Proper torque on the crank bolt. Its caused when the bottom timing gear comes loose and rocks back and forth on the crank. Bad stuff
