I was replacing my halfshafts when I noticed this. It's on the Passenger side halfshaft - the plastic peice that sites up against the seal. Is this a problem?

Not really. I've seen it before. It just helps keep more crap from getting in the tranny.

What's a halfshaft?

I dunno, it's the part that goes into the trans on the passenger side. Personally, I don't think it's an issue - its not a seal, I think it just stops the halfshaft (axle?) from going too far into the trans. I may be wrong though, that's why I'm asking.

Technically that part is the intermediate or carrier shaft. The most important part is to make sure the bearing is good and the two mounting bolts are tight.;)

No problem, I've been running one of my SHO's like that for years. The output shaft seal, installed on the transmission casing, is what keeps the fluid from leaking out the transmission shaft opening.

I've found my piece hanging in the middle of the shaft, having to push it back into place to protect the seal from any outside debris that can potentially damage the seal.

Any pictures of the SHO wearing the green slicers? :)

You have to bolt down the carrier bearing and that holds the shaft in one position only, making it impossible to install the shaft further than it should be. You're good.

Edit: LOL...I should've read more down, AREA 91 just covered this. I'm leaving this here for the more in depth explanation though.

Thanks for the info, I'll go ahead and install it tomorrow.
