When you say sluggish on lock up, how slow is it being? My converter seems to lock up rather "weakly" at rpms below 2500. When I say weak I mean it tries to lock up in 3rd or 4th but if there's more than about 10% throttle input, it seems to get halfway locked up and just chill there until I reduce the load. If it is doing this, I wouldnt worry about it as mine has done that since day one and I think its part of the programming from Ferd.
Well most of the time it's ok other times it downshifts with like 10% throttle and it hangs there for a bit. Wide open throttle on 2nd to 3rd shifts it will hang at about 4500rpms before locking into 3rd at around 4000rpms. Once in a great while it also studders when slightly giving gas I'm guessing because it's trying to upshift then down shifting.

You have the wrong converter in the car, i.e. a V6SHO converter. Happens all the time. I believe in either the post I linked or that thread I mention the problem.
Does that mean I need to swap it out? Where would I find a v8 torque converter?
