So for the past couple of weeks I have bben hearing a ticking coming from the front of the engine (the side with the belt) I really didnt think anything of it because I was either thinking it was a serp belt tensioner or a timing belt tensioner. Well today I was being stupid and raced an aurora well I held the car in second gear at pretty high rpms then all of a sudden it just starting running like shit it died twice on me and it sounds really bad but its almost like timing was off or something. I tore it apart intake manifold and valve covers and everything looks okay all my valves move and what not but i took of the upper part of the timing belt cover and myu timing belt was really loose about an inch of play maybe more but not by much more. My Oil light would flicker on and off if my rpms got too low right before the car would die. It does still run but it takes it awhile to start and you gotta give it gas. no coolant in the oil or vise versa what else could have happened???

Dag, I got into trouble in my FIRST SHO racing an Aurora and now I own one :smash: Moral here is do NOT race Aurora's haha, j/k j/k. I may be a bit premature here but it sounds to me as if your timing belt has stretched due to wear and age and is prolly a tooth of several off. When was the last time a 60K or timing belt/wp was done? I'd bet if you adjusted the timing u'd be ok. Are ya sure the ticking isn't coming from the injectors or maybe worn chain tensioners?

do NOT keep running the car like that. Same thing happened to a 92 celica gt I used to have. A tooth sheared off of the timing belt, the oil pump wasn't providing enough oil to the motor and then I destroyed a main bearing.

Check you timing belt and tensioners. Then I'd pull the pan after you get that fixed and check your bearings.

Sorry but how does a broken timing belt affect the oil pump? :munch:

Sounds like the way my SHO was running before I did the front 60K.

The timing was off and it ran like dog shit. I bet that's what it is.

Good luck!

Actually I just put a new timing belt, water pump(which I just found out is leaking) so ill have to get some rtv for that, main seal rear main seal pretty much a whole 60k except for that damn valve lash which I have no clue how to do I have had it explained to me many times and I just dont understand the concept. the car has 132,000 on it without any knowledge of a valve lash being done before. Why would an injector tick? My car has also been running sluggish before this happened after the tick had made itself known. I really dont know how to explain it just running like shit basically it would chug up to speed almost like a fuel related issue But I have no clue. Im going to check my timing and see what everything looks like in their. I will post more when I have more info

I wouldn't worry about the oil light thats normal if the car is about to stall out, if it ws on while driving I would be concerned. The injectors tick and can be confused with valve tick, they tick because an electromagnet inside moves a plunger and creates that tick sound every time it fires. If the timing is in check, I would check to see if their are any codes, and run a bottle or two of injector cleaner to see if it helps with the sluggishnes. I always start with the cheap stuff. Then if it continues to make a tick other than the injectors I would check the valve lash. You might want to change your O2 sensors if they have never been changed as well

timming tensioner might have loosened up or the belt streched. when you get it running take a long screwdriver put it on the injectors and the handle to your ear. do the same to the valve covers that way you can get an idea where its comming from.
