Will a gen 2 decklid (carpeted piece that covers speakers) potentially work in a gen 1? I really hate the 3rd brake light and it is no longer functional, secondly the carpet is in bad shape on my 91's storage compartment. So besides the obvious speaker obstruction with the gen 1 style being higher up, will the shape itself slip into place? Thanks in advance. thumb thumb

I don't think it will just "drop in". You already know about the speakers, so you would have to make some changes there. Also the back seat in the 2nd gens is flat across the top so the package tray does not have the 2 "bumps" in front of the speaker grills to match the seat in the 1st gen cars. 2nd gen Sables have the bumps in the back seat like the 1st gens do but I don't think there was a model that did not have a 3rd brake light on the package tray.

Thanks for the replys... I must not have clicked the email notification on this post so I didn't see anyone had replied to it. Anyways, the reason I am adding the gen 2 rear decklid is due to the fact I did away with the 3rd brake light and added an LED bar recessed in the trunklid. Hence, the oem 3rd light just sat there unused and if I removed it there was the cutout in the carpeted piece. Also, I find the 3rd brakelight to be a distraction when looking in the rear view mirror compared to driving my 93. Lastly, I have to fab something anyhow due to my install of the schroth harnesses which utilizes the C-pillar rear seatbelt mount. Given enough time this week I should have my harnesses installed, rear decklid swapped and modified and a remote keyless entry system added to the 91. If time really seems abundant I'll see if I can get that battery relocated to the trunk too... hahaha, yeah like that'll happen. Anyways, if anyone wants pics regarding the swap I'll be happy to oblige sometime next week when the project is complete. thumb

I do!!! I do!!! *jumps up and down :D * I would also like to see pics of this recessed LED bar you speak of... I too find it a distraction, but on the other hand I really need to lose the tint on my windows(All of them except front 2 to be exact) because it cracked and I can't see out of it very well(Really blurry).

I put a Rear Decklid from a 94 in my 89, i had to trim alot off the back of it, trim my 89 third brake light to accomodate the higher sitting rear decklid. Another thing to note is that apparently the gen 2's have smaller rear quarter panel windows which means that there is a slight gap that can be seen outside if you look really close.
Pics can be seen on my website. I also have gen 2 seats so it looks really nice :) .

That looks GREAT! Nice job... I haven't had a chance to get mine fabbed in yet, but it's good to know it CAN be done wink I am leaving the stock gen 1 speakers so I doubt I'll be able to use the flat screens from the gen 2, but none-the-less it'll be an improvement from what is there. Thanks for the reply. thumb
