Hi fellow SHO owners.

I am a first time poster, long time viewer. I love my SHO, but there is something I wanted to ask about to see if others have had the same problems.

My 2010 has all kinds of interior noise. Let me just list them:

  • Clicking / rattle under trans shifter / center console when hitting bumps. Cannot get to this from interior of car, tried to look beneath car and can't find anything loose near exhaust path.
  • rattle in driver's side vent nearest to door... sounds like plastic on plastic clicking/ticking. Have placed pennies and quarter around edges of it... seems to help the problem.
  • rattle in hot weather coming from defroster vent on driver's side... placed dime in edge of it to help the problem.
  • rattle coming from roof of cabin throughout... you can hit the roof and it flexes considerably. Seems loose. Braced around the edges of the sun roof with paper towels and wax pads to try and tighten up the cabin roof. Helped only a little.
  • Newest occasional rattle coming from passenger front seat area and door.

The first noise is almost constant and really gives me a lot of grief. The others are more transient but really are trying at times. On the rough roads near my home during my commute I almost think that the car's interior is just going to destruct.

Of course it is always hard to replicate the problem at a dealer. A couple questions. Have any of you had these problems or similar... and how or what would you do to help them.

I love the way the car handles, drives, etc. But it is very annoying and takes away the enjoyment of my car by having these nagging noises inside it all the time.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum!

The one time I noticed a rattle in the center console it would go away as soon as I removed the 24 oz bottle of Mountain Dew from the cup holder. Interestingly it didn't matter if the bottle was in the single cup holder next to the shift lever or in the dual cup holder behind the shift lever, either location would cause a similar rattle.

As for the last two rattles in your list, they may be both due to what I found in this thread. For a bit of history behind this thread, I thought the rattle at first was from the passenger seat, then noticed it was still there when someone was sitting in the seat so I thought it was in the door. I took the door panel off, inspected inside the door, installed some Dynamat on the vapor barrier, put it all back together, no change. Then I thought it might be the rear sunshade. I took the rear package tray apart, removed the sunshade, installed Dynamat back there, put it all back together, no change. Finally I found the wire harness in front of the sunroof, wrapped it in carpet (still that way today) and the noise is gone.

Nope...no noises like that hear.
I just have the occasional console creak when very hot or very cold and hitting brakes hard. If I get in the car, and push on the console first, all is good. Suppose it is just expansion/contraction of the materials.

Yes,

I thought the noise was coming from the rear seat, but it is actually coming from the headliner. If I grab the headliner at the front edge of the sunroof the noise stops. Happens almost every day - annoying!

Anyone had noise coming from near the steering wheel column - sounds like two washers clinking together? I happens while driving straight, but able to reproduce it if I turn the steering wheel just the right way and tap the wheel.

Yes, I have same noise from column/dash cluster area. Also I get all kinds of coin noise from using the holder in the console. It drives me nuts! My SD truck has a spring loaded coin holder-way nicer. I've also had the headliner noises. I am not thirlled with the little rattles and noises in the car. Really that is my main complaint. Too much noise. My '01 Taurus POS is quieter!
