I have read on some SHO sites that the upper intake can be removed in 10 minutes, maybe as long as 30 if you have never done it before. I don't believe it, unless there are some shortcuts that I am missing. The passenger side rear upper manifold support bracket is nearly impossible to get out, I must have spent and hour on it. Are there any good guides? Factory manual is less than helpful - "remove all the vacuum lines and coolant lines" then take out 12 bolts is not what I needed, and besides there is more to it than that.

The (again) reference is because I knocked the back corner loose on the rear cam cover gasket while installing it and now have a worse oil leak than the one I was trying to fix.

Problem #2. Other than the oil leak, the car will not idle now. Any suggestions as to something I might have over looked or not hooked back up? Won't start unless I press on the gas pedal.

Thanks

I wish I had seen that first. At least I would have known what I was getting in to. I have done something wrong with the throttle cable, it seems. There is a lot of slack in it now, and the car won't idle.

The throttle cable shouldnt really have much to do with idling as the IAC/IAB is supposed to do that. You probably have a leak somewhere after the MAF and so you are running lean (more air coming in than was metered by the MAF) causing it to not idle right.

I would check things to make sure all lines are hooked up, etc.

Here's a few simple tricks I don't know if SHOPP covered or not....the rear intake supports don't need to be put back on...nor does the coolant lines going into the throttle body and split in the intake (see "throttle Body coolant bypass"). Also...that lil black strap behind the throttle body? Mine ain't been hooked up in the three years that I've owned the car. It takes me a little less than 10 minutes to pull the intake, assuming I didn't forget to unscrew the ground wire on the back of the firewall like I always do.

Oh yeah...I don't take my TB completly out of the car...I just disconnect from the intake and set it on the driver's side shock tower out of the way.

have to be 21 in MI...and have the record of a saint for a CCW permit.

But after that...there are a surprising amount of liberties that come with it...so long as you dont pull it out (unless you really need to use it), and dont take it onto school grounds or in a church..and a few other places..

I believe it's even legal to carry it on yourself in plain view as long as it's holstered...just expect a lot of attention from the law enforcement around you.

But i may be wrong on all of that.

YEEEAAAAA, took me like, 2 hours the first time to get my intake off. Now it's about 30 minutes. I made the valve cover mistake too. And i also forgot to tighten down the lower most nuts for the snakes...man did that thing scream and idle like crap.

PS, i just enrolled in school for a degree in criminal justice :thumb:

also can't get hired as a cop, cuz cops around here have to be eligible for their CCW........

But then, if I had a firearm with me at certain times, I'd prolly be in jail, so I guess there's an upside....

Well, ya know, that's why I get mad when people tell me to quit smoking.....I tell them I'm saving lives by smoking. When I get that puzzled look that's inevitable, I simply tell them that if I quit, I'd start killing.... :nut:
