I've never taken one of these apart before but would really like to polish and paint mine over labor day weekend any advice, do's and donts?

Go ahead and replace the couplers and clamps if you can. They are likely needing replaced if not been done before. If you have never replaced the valve cover gaskets then this will be the perfect time too.

When painting the intake, do not paint the mount where the DIS goes and be careful with the two brackets that connect the crossover tube to the front and rear tanks. Those are grounding points and can play havoc if you paint over them.

The intake gaskets can be reused. Right before you go to mount the intake back on the engine spray the gaskets with some fresh black paint and mount the intake while they are wet.

Good luck with the polish.

Def post pics in progress/finished! And be careful not to get any of the polishing/finishing material/waste into the intake itself.

After reading my above post I would like to be clear about which gaskets are reusable. The metal intake to head gaskets are the reusable ones. The paper gaskets that connect all the parts of the intake together need to be replaced.

unless you know how to get about 200 hours into the weekend, you are not going to get it polished and painted...

You would be better off getting a spare intake and doing it.

I you aren't polishing it is fairly straightforward affair. The hardest thing for me was getting the snakes back together without scratching the paint (I didn't). Be careful with that part.

you said "polish and paint" which is a far cry from "paint" in terms of time required.

Polishing is rough because of all the radii. It is the reason I never went forward with anodizing.
