I just took off the intake and cleaned it. When i took it apart , I seperated the runners from the rest of the intake and one off the gaskets broke (gasket off the runner). Wher can i get these gaskets? Should i also repace the intake gasket? Going to do the plugs, wires and valve cover gaskets. The valve cover gasket from autozone is that what i need if i have oil in the plugs. Also I don't plan on having this car for long, I'm just trying to get it to run good and then i'm going to bring it to an auction to sell ,so would it be alright to use Bosch wires? Would it run alright with these , I prced them at Autozone tonight and they were $89.00. While i have the intake off is there anything else that i should do?

The gasket set for the intake manifold, including the two metal intake-to-head gaskets is the Fel-Pro MS94831 from RockAuto.com for $42.22 or AutoZone.com for $45.99. The valve cover and plug well seal set is the Fel-Pro VS50378R from AutoZone.com for $71.99 (look up for a '91 SHO). I had two sets of the Borg Warner wires fail within a couple months. Get the real thing, the Motorcraft WR-4033 (also fits 3.2L) from FordPartsNetwork.com for $83.99. Anything else to so with the intake and valve covers off? Yeah. Check the gaps on those valves.

Is the spark plug well gasket from fordpartsnetwork the same set from autozone? Does it come with the valvecover gasket?

how do i check the gaps on the valves? This forum is great!!!!!
You need some feeler gauges and you place them in between the top of the cam lobe and the shim. The cam lobe should be at a 90 degree angle with the shim to measure the gap correctly. I just jacked up my SHO so that I could turn the wheels to keep lining the cam lobes up.

Works great for an MTX, won't work with a ATX. For the ATX, you can use a socket on the alternator bolt or on the crank bolt.

The fel pro set from autozone is not the same as the well gasket from FPN. The 6 well gaskets are included in the set as well as new valve cover gaskets for each side. THe FPN stuff is Ford OEM dealer stuff at a discount. Ford sells each well seal for $20+ each as I recall. Get all your Ford only parts(plugs, wires etc.) from either FPN or fordpartsonline because you want to keep shipping costs down. -ie FPN $7 min. shipping up to a certain weight- still save plenty

GC4VETTE,

As long as you are going to change spark plugs, you can loosen them to relieve the compression. Leave the plugs in the cylinders loose, so that nothing can fall into the cylinders. This will make it easier to turn the engine over with a 19 milimeter socket on a 1/2 inch breaker bar (or wratchet) on the crankshaft pulley bolt. Trans
in neutral or park.

You turn the engine over to line up the cam lobes so that the heel of the lobe, not the pointed end, is over the valve you are checking. The pointed end of the cam lobe should point upward, and be perpendicular to the valve disk.

The disk, or "shim", is on top of the valve. Using a feeler guage, you measure the clearance, or "gap" between the heel of the cam lobe and the shim.

The intake valve clearance specified is .006 to .010, with .008 (in the middle) being the target gap. The exaust valve clearance specified is .010 to .014, with .012 being the target gap.

If the clearances are out of specification, it is adjusted by removing and replacing the shim with a shim that will bring it into specification.

If you decide to make adjustments to your valve clearances you will need two "special tools" from OTC, and a source of shims, such as SHO NUT.
OTC tool 1) compressor, tappet 303-344 $19.31
2) holder, tappet 303-345 $14.78
Plus shipping and taxes (if applicable). Phone 866-640-7305

You may want to get the tools first. Then make a list of the clearances, and the disks that are in the car. If, for example you have a clearance of .013 on an exaust valve, and the disk is a 2550, the next disk up (in size) is a 2575. The disks are very near .001 differnt in size. The 2575 is .001 thicker than the 2550.

In this example, a new 2550 may bring the clearance into specification, if only the disk is worn. If the cam is also worn, then the 2575 may be necessary to get the proper clearance. The numbers on the back side of the disk are the thickness of the disk in milimeters.

I suggest that you go into SHO Nuts web site and read about the shims, so that this will make more sence, that is, knowing what you have, and what you may need to correct it. Hope this helps, rangerj

Get the fel pro set from AutoZone.com. The part number vs.....is in sdpatt's post above. Much cheaper than a Ford kit.

Do yourself a favor and get a cheater bar for your ratchet. A 3' long section of 1" SCH-40 PVC pipe works great and will cost you about a dollar. Or, just loosen the spark plugs as suggested above. The cheater bar will keep you from stooping over to reach that ratchet however.
