on my 92 mtx on the intake between the idle air motor and the intake is a small plate is this some sort of intake heater using coolant similar to a 5.0 mustang.
my second question is can this be eliminated to help keep the intake charge cooler and gain a tiny bit of power ???

Yes, you can remove it. The throttle body has similar heater lines that can be bypassed. Don't expect any power gains though. I removed the heater block and bypassed my throttle body, but I only did it to make intake removal/installation easier.

Beware that you could run into throttle plate icing issues in cold weather if you decide to do this. It's a very rare occurrence, but it can happen.

yea i figured it would be worth little to no power really, but anything is better than nothing, and i would think that cooler inlet temps could be helpfull

I think the biggest benefit to removing them is not having to deal with them and the coolant mess when you remove the intake.

This. The first time I removed my intake, those little coolant lines literally cracked into pieces. Eventually just bypassed the whole mess. Intake comes off in like 20 minutes now.

Yeah, I've actually had the throttle ice up on me with those lines bypassed, so it absolutely can happen. A little common sense applied and it's not a big deal, though (shift into neutral).

It does make taking the intake off a heluva lot easier.
