I'm in the process of doing a full 60K and i'd like to know what you guys use to clean the Intake Manifold (Inside and Outside) I have a nice build up of Black Gunk/Carbon.

What can i use to clean the Valve Covers?

Also what should i use to clean the Timing cover and Coil cover?

Thanks

The stuff in there is nasty. I use either the sandblast (duh) or autobody thinner - be careful this stuff is extremely harmfull , it burns skin , it dissolves paint as well. A tub and rubber gloves , a must. That is if you want to remove everything. Just for a quick clean , either some Varsol or some cans of brake cleaner...

If you are taking it apart, replacing gaskets and cleaning/painting everything, let it all soak in a shallow tub of kerosene with the lid on overnight.

Then use dryer hose brushes on a drill and go to town.

Berryman's B12 is the best stuff I have used so far.

You swear by that stuff brian.

It does the job and does it well. I was going to post that up but I forgot what the name was.

don't forget...if you're married, it's customary to clean all parts, whether using hazardous chemicals or not, in the kitchen sink and use the top rack of the dishwasher to rinse everything thoroughly.

Honestly, I don't see much difference in effectiveness between Berryman B12 and Walmart's Supertech Carb Cleaner. But today, I picked up all the CRC Carb cleaner my local Walmart had...they were clearing it out at $1.00 per 16 oz can!

I used simple green; let it sit overnight and used and my ex girlfriends crest spin pro toothbrush to clean the inside of the valve covers; no toxic or combustible fumes. Brake cleaner and bottle brush (from chem lab) used on the snakes.

Honestly... take it apart, and take the snakes to a machine shop.. They can steam clean them spotless for about $20 if you find the right place..

Oil Eater from Costco does a great job on the oil pan, valve covers, etc. I use it full strength, let it soak 30 minutes or so, and hose off. The results:

thats pretty impressive itwonder.....

I recromend simple green also for your timing cover and coil cover... or just junk the coil cover

spray it down full strength, and use a brush... works fairly decent and isn't harmful

for the metal intake stronger stuff is highly recromended, that oil eater stuff looks like it does a damn good job......

Simple green turned the inside of my heads silver with three applications over the course of an hour.
