Im training to be an Automotive Service Techinican and we were taught that even if a gasket looks fine you should never reuse it after its been taken off the car

so your training to change oil at a dealership and you know more than
the years of hands on experience that people here have acquired.

Hope you get a good job as an Automotive Service Techinican so you can buy new gaskets every time you pull your intake.

The metal ones between the heads and intake are often fine to reuse. I always have problems with the paper ones breaking and sticking when I pull them apart, so they are replaced.

Agreed. I've had no issues re-using the metal ones, but always replaced the paper ones.

see im the other way around, I have problems with the metal ones not the paper ones lol

and also, when working at a garage, you don't have room to make mistakes, you get paid by what you do, you can't do the job twice because you questioned wether to reuse a gasket or not, you do it 100% right the first time...

we are more prone to use our gaskets, cause its our money, and we are constantly tinkering with our shit..... its not that big of a deal to us

now when some old lady comes in for a job that requires the intake to be removed, and its been 10 years since it was removed, and 10 years before it gets removed again, bet your ass I'm going to put new gaskets on it...

I agree you don't have to be such a deutsch bag about it.:ohreally:

As far as the gaskets are concerned, I give them a life of 60k, 5 years or 10 removals whichever one comes 1st. If I take the intake off within this timeline I'll most likely reuse the metal gaskets, if its past then its definitely time for new ones.

LOL. Good Sunday morning entertainment.

To the new kids who are studying to be the next great mechanic/technician/engineer, etc. Don't take everything so personally. You're learning stuff in school, getting paperwork to back up your education and that's great for the resume. In the real world it doesn't mean dick. And no, I'm not trying to be an a-hole, I'm being realistic. There's a lot of people on this forum that are hands-on, and have been for many years. Varying degrees of intelligence, experience, training, etc. One thing they have is hands on, many times over, with these cars. Listen to them. We know what we're doing, and we've been doing it for years. We know what works and what doesn't, and some of us actually know WHY it doesn't work, through education and hands on experience.

These cars are old. Everything, for the most part, has been done, tried, blown up, tried again, blown up, and repeated.

Now let's everyone relax before I gotta head over to that "motor mount monstrosity" thread and pick it apart.
