I bought a set of white faced gauges for my car but I cant figure out the wiring. I can get the gauges on I just dont know how to wire them (I am unexperienced in wiring.) The gauges I bought also came with the blue power inverter so the lights can turn blue at night. If anyone if familiar with this set up that I am explaning can you please tell me how to wire them into my car because I have no idea what I wire them into. I need some guidlines and remember I am a novice when it comes to this so can you please be very specific. Any advice will be much appreciated.

Its been well over a year since i installed mine so i can hardly remember however if your car is a gen2 and has a fog light button then just splice the little boxes wires into those. I forget who told me to do that but it was on the forum way back when. If i recall mine had a red, black, and white wire on the box. The red and white were obvious and the white was telling it to come on when the foglight switch would come on( meaning when ur auto headlights would come on. But im not 100% on that because its been so long ago. Sorry im not of anymore help.

If you bought them from eBay, I believe the instructions say to wire the positive wire into the headlight wiring. Connect the red wire from your gauges to the the positive wire that lights the parking lights, so that the gauges will light when you turn your parking/headlights on. The ground wire should be grounded at another location close by (not exactly sure where)? I just bought a set of these gauges as well, and plan on installing them in a week or so. I'll make sure to take some pics and do a write up on the installation.

ANSWER

For the wiring of the new gauge faces, the logical question is 'when do I want the gauge illumination to be on?' The answer would be - anytime the lights are on. Turning the light switch to park will turn on the old gauge lighting, so this position should turn on the new gauges also.

The new gauge inverter should have two wires, a +12 positive line (should be red), and a ground (should be black). The ground can be connected at any ground, whether that be to the body of the car or by tapping another ground wire such as the ground wire for the radio. A good place to obtain ground is the metal plate underneath the steering column.

For +12v, you will need to tap into the light switch. The illumination wiring system can't be used, because it is dimmed. The correct wire to tap is the +12v wire that powers the exterior lights (parking lights, tail lights). On 1993-1995 this wire is brown. A 'tap' type connector can be used to get power from this wire without cutting it. The easiest way is to pull out the light switch (which will be out when you do the gauges anyway) and tap the brown wire right behind the switch. The brown wire also goes from the switch to the fuse panel, so the brown wire can also be tapped at fuse 13 or 15 (it goes through both fuses to power other accessories; fuse 13 goes to the dimmer for other interior gauge lighting, fuse 15 to the tail and parking lights.)

Years earlier than 1993 may have different wire colors, perhaps others can comment?
