Pulled Back

I checked mine this weekend and the wires were touching the head right at the sharp edged right angle. The room is tight so I decided to just pull it away from the head with a wire tie. I used the near by wiring harness as an achoring point. At least the will not be getting chaffed.

Ford seemed to fix mine for me, There is a clip taped into the wiring harness and the wires were taped up real nice. They fixed it when my blown engine was replaced. They told me they fixed a bunch of small things since it was a 6/09 car.

that would probably be very difficult to do. I would recommend a piece of 1/4 inch wire loom.

You are correct, it is very difficult, just spent 1/2 hour trying to get a piece of Gorilla tape in place to protect the wires. Mine were not chaffed and were not tight against the engine, but I finally managed to get a piece of tape on the harness and wires to protect it and keep it from rubbing on the engine. But wire loom is really the way to go, it still won't be easy to get in place but at least it won't stick to everything it touches like tape, and there really isn't much room, so you could get the loom in place with only a couple of fingers.

I was able to pull this off but it was tricky and I had to reposition my hand several ways in order to pull it off, took me around 30 minutes from the time I started trying to figure out how to do it to actually getting the loom on.

It is a good fix though, stays in place and is preventing the wire from rubbing.

An update from me.... I finally had a chance to put the loom on there on Saturday before we went on a ~200 mile trip. It was a bear to get in that spot but I got at it.

99% cleared up my "miss" sometimes at highway speed and the miss/stumble occasionally when you get on it. She's back to herself again.

When I take the car for its yearly state inspection later in the month I'll have the dealer replace the sensors.

Chafing discovered and problem resolved

Thank so much for the information. I corrected the exposed cables and the problem is gone. I can now appreciate the power of this engine. :hail:

How many miles do you have? I never did check mine, decided to check tomorrow after I get it back from an alignment and that freaking sun screen in the back window stay down.... NOW I am dropping it off at the dealer right after the alignment... Guess I could have them check the knock sensor harness while their at it.

Is the wire chaffing problem only on SHO's or can it also be on the limited as well?

Similar question: I assume this applies to an Ecoboost Flex too?

Going to look at a 2010 Limited this weekend to go with the 2011 SHO.

It should apply to any of the current twin turbo 3.5 V6 engines (SHO, MKS EB, Interceptor EB, Flex EB, MKT EB, Explorer Sport). I'm not sure how similar the heads are between the SHO and the Taurus Limited though or the placement of the knock sensors.

Thanks - I knew the motors were the same, but wasn't sure if the wires might be routed differently in the different engine bay.

(Ended up getting it, pristine single owner trade in.)

It's now 1.5 year from the repair and 46k miles and the car is working like a champ. It does feel like a V8 specially on cooler days.

So popped the cover off and took a look. i think I found the wires but they don't appear to be chafed or damaged. little dirty and dusty but appear to be clean. Worth looming up?
