Illuminated entry/door handle question

Hi there from San Antonio!
On a 92,5 speed SHO with keyless entry,should both front exterior door handles trigger the dome light when the doors are locked? Touching the keypad will turn on the dome lights and it always has. Had some body work done on the driver door and I am not sure entry light function is properly working after they did the work. I would be very greatful if someone would check their car and report back to me? I may not have a problem at all, but I have no way to be completely sure without checking another 92 SHO.

i have a 95, but it should trigger the dome light, yes. sure you don't have it switched off inside (either on the dome iteself or on the dimmer switch area? by your left knee)

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes the dome is on and it will come on by lifting the passenger door handle and also touching the keypad, but not by lifting the driver door handle. As I said,I just can't remember if if it has ever functioned as the owners manual describes. Could the manual be written assuming certain cars do not have keyless entry?

my car doesn't have keyless, but i'm almost positive it doesn't matter, the dome light should come on if you lift the handle OR touch the keypad on the drivers door and passenger door.

And yes the light should come on when the drivers door handle is lifted....

Thanks for the quick reply sasho91. The Key question is does your 91 SHO have keyless entry? I think there might be a difference. If yours does and the light comes on when the handle is lifted, this would mean that I have a problem. Please let me know if you have keyless entry. Also, I am located near Churchill High School.

Yes i have keyless enrty.. Not Remote Keyless though.

Thanks a bunch! Sounds like I must have a defective door latch. This is where the door ajar switch and door handle switch are located. My SHO does not have remote entry that I am aware of although the factory schematic of the 92 year Keyless module shows a antenna input, so it must have the ability to be remote if need be at a future date. Anyone out there know if this is true?

You can wire one into it...
Im not sure if the 92's have the RKE module in the trunk. I know that the 93's did. I had the module in my trunk but no remote. Got one, programed it for the car, and had RKE on the 93'. Like i said though, im not sure if the 92 has that module. You can check though. Its on the drivers side mounted up by the strut tower on the back seat(in trunk). It has a a couple sets of connecters going to it, IIRC. And then you have the antenna wire on it as well. Sorry i dont have a pic of it...

The keypad will unlock light up the lights if you press a button, the door handle wont, my remote keyless (factory) also lights up the inside.

I just walked outside and did it on the 91 (KE). I pulled the handle, with the system locked, and the interior lights came on....

My 92 has the same issue, but that's only because the driver's door was recently mangled during a failed break-in attempt. It's supposed to light the interior when you pull the handle on both front doors.

Well guys, I guess the verdict is in. Sounds like my car needs the door latch replaced which is where the handle switch is located. All but one of you guys have cars where both handles trigger the lights.I would be interested to hear more from YAHTEC as his car functions just like mine. YATEC,has your car always been this way to you knowledge? Thanks to all that posted. Thanks SASHO91 for actually going out to check your car.

My white 95's dome light does not light up when the driver or passenger door handles are lifted with the doors locked. However, on my other red 95 I remeber the dome light coming on when the handles were lifted. Both are remote keyless and keyless entry. The thing with my white 95, the Door Ajar light has been on for many months now, and I think it may have to do with what you're saying about the handle switch malfucntion. From the inside of the car, it may take me three attempts at times to even get the door open. The inside door handle appears to stick out more than it should. I hope this helps.

just cuz i wanna say something.
my 93 taurus GL didnt have keyless entry but it still had the lights come on if you touched either handle.
my 92 donor car had keyless entry but no antenna but it was hooked to an alarm system so made no difference.
my 93 has keyless entry with antenna and its a atx.
ok i feel better now

LookAtThatSHO... i had my door ajar light on also and my upper interior lights didnt work... turns out my keyless entry module inthe trunk was shot. dont ask how i figured that out lol

me personally i think the doors in general are screwed up...lol my keyless doesnt light, the frigin lock locks itself when i pull up the exterior handle and i swear i programed it that when you pass "R"everse the car locks and it did it for a while but desided not to anymore...sigh
