I have a few questions and will number them. (1)I am not sure how to use this board exactly so any advice/help would be great. I posted "my daughter's sho" and the advice has been helpful. Should I repost as I'm doing now or what to continue with my problem?
(2)I was wondering if someone could explain the ignition coil. As that is what I am beginning to suspect. I have a useless chilton book.I understand that there are 3 coils. With 1 coil firing 2 plugs at once. Could one coil be bad? How would I test to verify this????
(3)The only codes are 536 and 521. My brake lights work find and I turned the wheel during the test so I don't know why I have these codes.Could anyone explain this to me.
I have looked at the engine in a closed garage and see no arcing whatsoever. I have disconnected a sensor and will then get a code so I know the computer is seeing codes.
A BIG THANKS as everyone has been most helpful and I am finding out more about the SHO then I ever wanted to know. I do not think I will tackle the 60K work, but who knows with all your help maybe!!!
Thanks again

Fred -
The Chilton's may be your problem. The coil pack diagram in that book is wrong.

Looking at the coil pack from the front of the engine, the plug wires should read

5 | 1
6 | 2
4 | 3

Chilton's diagram is different.
The coil pack has 3 coils, each of which fire 2 cylinders concurrently. If one coil was bad, you'd be running on 4 cylinders. If you doubt the pack anyway, I keep spares & can swap it out to test if you'd care to swing by my shop in Cumberland, RI.

Since you mention the Chilton's, I'd check the plug wire locations on the pack.

Also, the cylinder locations are (standing in front of the car):

1-2-3
4-5-6

Good luck. I have a pretty open weekend if you want help& can make it down. My cell # is 401-578-0652.

Actually, there IS a correct diagram in there. For the life of me I can't remember what the page number is. Fred (Hurder), I think it might be section 2-18 or something; I'd check it out but I don't have the book. I found this out when looking through the book during my 60k. If I get a chance to look through one I'll post the info.

I do have a Chilton's as well;

Page 2-18, figure 43 of the Chilton's IS correct, on the mapping of the plugs on the coil pack. However, from the look of the harness connector, it's the coil pack for a 3.0L FFV, instead of the 3.0L SHO. Again, the pattern is correct there.

Page 2-8, figure 14 shows the incorrect pattern.

It might be easier to repost so we can refer to problem description. All of us have been frustrated with diagnostics at one time or another. Hang in there.

Oh yeah, looking at your other thread, it would be helpful if you listed what steps you've taken so far so we can rule things out. If there was oil in the wells it is very common to have to replace the wires. It's not something you can really eyeball. Keep us posted.
