Wow, I just tryed the "hold clutch in for 3 seconds before trying reverse" trick without hitting any other gear first, expecting that familiar grind yet got that distinctive "Snap" as reverse went in like butter. And here I was thinking my tranny was worn.

Ok...well then I have this question:

Why the **** is reverse unsynchronized??? Every other manual tran on the planet has one, every car I've ever owned has been a manual and no problem going into reverse. Why the **** did Ford chince out on this tranny? There is no reason not to have a synchronized reverse gear...
Apparently there was not enough room in our transmissions for a reverse synchro due to the beefier gearset installed. I know Subaru offers a rally transmission for the WRX that is completely unsynchronized, 1st-5th because of physically stronger and wider gears.

Mercedes Benz were the only ones that installed syncros for reverse.

I'm a 4rth to Reverse type of guy.... but the funny thing is that when ever my old man lets me drive his SLK 6 speed, I do the same thing...like if it was necessary or something....
