I was checking my upper idler pulley and with the tension released it doesn't move persay, but I can feel it tap very very faintly when I try to wobble it around. It's barely there, but I put a stethescope on it's bolt and I hear all this whining and scraping so I figure that's the bearing that's wailing over there. I just took it on a 4 hour trip and it did just fine, just made that noise. Would it be okay on a mostly highway 8 hour trip? Should I try and grease it or do something? If so what should I do to grease it? Thanks!

mine did the same thing, it progressivly got louder, then one day it stopped making noise and seized up a couple days later taking the belt with it. my suggestion would be to replace it as soon as you can.

Bearings are funny like that, sometimes they will last for a long long time, other times they die in an instant. Its just a guessing game.

Think greasing it will help? Or should I just go and get a new one? I wanna be getting moving soon so I gotta get it done asap.

It's sealed, so there's no way to grease it, really. It's your call, but I'd take care of it sooner rather than later.

you can either change it Or else bring along a set of tools, new belt, and another pulley because more than likely you'll need it on the high way. Also you might need a flash light if you get stuck at night. None of us can tell you when it's going to go...... we can just tell you it's going to go. if you like to gamble, the odds are good your going to be in trouble.

Okay okay okay, yeesh :nut: I just thought I heard Offroad say he greased his at one time, though I can't be sure. Here's hoping that's the bearing. I couldn't reach the other with the probe, I so gotta move the battery to the trunk, just for friggin arm room.

You could very carefully remove the rubber seal and **** there then reinstall the seal. That is if you are good enough not to wreck the seal.

if your g oing to go through all that trouble why not just replace it  if the bearing is making noise its already to late to fix it.

I used my greese gun with a needle on the end. I carefully snuck it past the edge of the seal, and filled her up. All's quiet..............for now.:thumb:
