I made a video of the sights and sounds. However things didn't exactly go as planned...

So my transplanted engine just started today. The only real issues are these.

1. The car idles at about 1500 and goes cycles down about 500 RPM every second or so, and I hear a pop once every few seconds. When I hold the gas down to about 3000 RPMs the car still cycles down about 500 RPM every second or so.

2. There is a squealing from one of the accessory belts. The alternator pulley will burn to the touch after the car being on for 10 seconds or so. The pulleys for the AC, Alt and tensioner are turning. The deflection appears to be about half an inch or a bit more.

I get code 24 in hard memory. I think I know why. It's the ACT sensor and I may have the wrong cable plugged into it.

In intermediate I get 49 for SPOUT. I wouldn't imagine that it would make my idle so funny.

I really need some help here guys. I'm at my wits end. I unplugged the ACT and got a code 26 which told me that the MAF sensor was out of range.

I fired it up again for about a minute and about 30 seconds into it it started reving out of control. I cut it off at about 3000+ RPMs. I got fuel and oil smoke from the front and the rear. I'm assuming that there is an exhaust leak from the front but could that cause the ******** engine function? Would a vacuum leak cause it?

Arg. Once I pummel Sony into giving me Vista drivers for my new handycam I might be able to get a video up.

Try cleaning the Idle air control, if that doesn't help, unplug it and see if that
helps. Could be a vacuum leak, but one that big would be pretty loud..
Try disconnecting your MAF and see if it idles better. (or at all) The oil smoke may be from a bad MAF+ 3,000 rpm= red hot exhaust. So do not rev the engine
while MAF is unhooked. If there is enough oil on your exhaust, it could catch fire!:oogle: I found this out th hard way.. Lucky I had a beer to pour on it.
And do not drive it with the MAF unhooked.. Unless it is under 2,000 rpm, and
and only to the parts store.. Have you cleaned all the connectors? And that hot pulley could be a bad bearing in one of your
pulleys... THAT would not help your idle.

Well, I haven't tried to start it since I almost blew it up, but I will again soon. I noticed an update in another thread of mine that the torque settings of 20 ft/lbs on the exhaust manifolds wasn't enough. I guess it would be possible for the engine to be sucking cold air back in through the gasket if it wasn't tight enough.

The big, screaming revving issue is confusing, but I have three things I need to check/fix: exhaust manifolds, vacuum routing and the MAF.

As for vacuum routing, are there any resources to tell me what hoses go where? The logical vacuum map on the rad support shield was useless.
