Identifying stage 1 cams

Anybody know how Sho Shop stage one cams can be identified assuming
they're already installed? Any unique markings? I bought a set of heads and
the fellow claimed they were sho shop stage 1's...I'd like to confirm before I
intall or try to sell. Thanks in advance!!

I would have to pull out my cams but I can tell you the cam will be shorter then the stock cam. It also will not have the relief around the journals like the stage 2's.

mic the lift and compare with stock cam values

MTX Intake .348" Lift
MTX Exhaust .328" Lift

I doubt that any SHO Shop cams actually measured what they were advertised. But, you could measure and see if its the same as stock. The stage 1 cams I had in my 93 sounded like a sewing machine because the re-grinds weren't as smooth.

You should be able to tell whats what with these measurements.

If you have reground cams, either you will have lash caps on the valve stems or very thick shims. Remove the shim and check.

They are called lash caps. They were put on the end of the valve stems.
