So, it's 16 degrees outside right now...my car idled for 20 minutes before I got in it, and I drove it around for about 30 minutes after dropping my son off. Temp guage (I know...about as accurate and truthful as a politician running for office) says it's about to the "A" (I've got reverse glow guages), but no heat at all. Open the hood and feel the engine, and it's warm with no apparent blockage of the cooling system. The outflow tube from the radiator isn't rock hard, so the thermostat's opening. Is my friggin heater core frozen??? And if so, what the **** can I do about it besides park it and drive the 98 this winter?

I replaced the radiator about 2 months ago and put a 50/50 mix in. I've sense added about 3/4 a gallon of water (no idea where it's leaking...only adding about once a month), and the coolant was tested three weeks ago at the local scam artists that is known as an oil change joint, and it was good. What the crap is going on????

Please...somebody....thaw my car....::shivers::

Was the air even luke warm? I just changed to a 192 t-stat from a 180, and it made a HUGE difference in heat. My car before would get to 180, then the t-stat would open and it would go right back down to about 165 at 15 degrees. But now it gets to about the 195 mark, and then only drops a little bit.

Is it possable that yours is stuck open and you car is not hitting operating temp?

Either the cooling system is low on coolant, the core is blocked or the blend door is goofy. Are the heater hoses hot?

It's hitting operating temp, Before he goes to work I think were gonna start it and let it run for awhile to see if it was just a fluke. I don't know But I really didn't want the 98 to see salt :cry:

ok, its just that the "A" on normal seemed a little low, but i wouldn't know, the gauge in my car is disconnected.

never mind. I went out and let it run for about an hour and it got nice'n toasty. I don't have an AC condensor, so my car almost ALWAYS runs a lil on the cool side. I still think the condensor froze....

16 isnt cold dude!

Last week we had 2 days that didnt get over 10 degrees!
And during one of those nights, I found myself outside in the snow replacing a front hub on my truck.

Let me tell ya, at -4 degrees, grease is like silly puddy :lol:

It's still early in the season.... we don't get horribly cold I don't think but when I got up at 7 it was about 12 degrees. It hasn't stopped snowing all day, not heavy snow but just constant snow. it's cold enough to be happy I didnt have to get out at all today!

If you don't have a 192F t-stat then it won't ever feel warm in cold cold weather. And If the t-stat is installed and working properly the engine coolant temp should be ~190F after warming up under any condition during the winter. Any less and the t-stat is leaking and under performing or there is too much heat loss through the block.
