So ive been having a few problems with my SHO lately, major problems! First off ill start by telling you what it is, it is a 1993 mtx. from the day i got it i couldnt get it to go into reverse without grinding every once in a while, that every once in a while turned into a all the time occurence and just the other day i was driving it and it got really really hard to shift into second. so hard that i had to use BOTH arms. then leaving school today (or attempting to) i couldnt get it to go into reverse at all but i finally did and then i drove it to see if it was gonna act up. now it is sitting in front of my house and the clutch is pressed to the floor and wont return on its own. if anybody has ANY sort of idea of whats wrong please text or call my phone (402-852-6464) i am asking to call or text because my internet got shut off monday and im at a friends house. if your going to call call after 4 pm anywhere til midnight. if i dont answer leave me a voicemail. PLEASE HELP ME! i need my car!

Sounds like it's time for a clutch job.

2 things

-if it's running and you need reverse, put the shifter in second first, then reverse.

-turn it off, put it in reverse, then start it.

The probable cause is the throwout bearing, and a worn clutch disc.

You need a clutch and probably a trans rebuild.

jthod is right. reverse WILL grind if you don't put it in some other gear first.

Stop driving it and get it fixed. What part of the state are you in?

no guys, driving it is not an option, the reverse thing was the most minor of the problems. to me it just seems like the clutch cable is shot because when you press the pedal to the floor it stays there, i took off my air box and had somebody press the clutch and the clutch doesnt move the linkage on the trans so im THINKING it has to be something from the pedal to the trans. but im not completely sure. and i live about 80 miles south east of lincoln. sorry it takes so long to reply. lack of internet, too broke to pay it. sucks

Is the cable tight where it attaches to the linkage on the trans? Follow the pedal up and see if the cable is still connected and tight.. should be a little loose but not much.

i live in pawnee city yes. is there a reason you ask? well guys i replaced the clutch cable, didnt solve sh*t. is the cable supposed to attatch to an arm that it pulls back? because thats how it looks but that arm that it attaches to is pulled back and is stuck back. wont go foward. im assuming that lever engages and disengages the clutch and something is screwing up causing it to not return to the normal position? idk. im not nver knowledgable with cars yet..

No it was just a guess. I teach with a guy here in Weeping Water who used to be down there. I also have looked at some roofs this past summer working for Farmers Mutual after all the hail we had this summer.

That was a good guess.

I would say your Throw out bearing and clutch have seen better days.

Also guys, is there a spring on the engagement lever that keeps the clutch engaged unless you push on the clutch pedal?

I never really got that familiar with my 93.

Talking about the clutch quadrant? ;) I was wondering if that was set right myself... cheap part that does go out from time to time..

Well on my Luv Diesel it had a large spring that ran from a bolt on the trans case to the pivoting "bar" that is pulled in and out when you push on the clutch pedal. Clutch quadrant? Sure!

Nah theres nothing on that... those forks have broken before tho.. that is a possibility.. the thing I was talking about is on the pedal side.

DIY
$ 23 - TOB
$200 - Clutch kit
$ 15 - Fresh trans fluid
A few prayers that your trans doesn't need to be rebuilt
------
$258

If you can't DIY, add @ $300 for R&R.
If you need a rebuild then it might be out of your price range.

Cost of a classified $10. PM me if that is the route you want to go.

Let's see some pictures and I'll donate $10 to the forum. I don't want to see another MTX thrown away.

I just would rather it be bought by one of us and fixed or used instead of going to a Junkyard. I paid a $10 fee for your ad.
