How many time do I think "WTH is that now!" and it is nothing but my tool box. If you are without doubt about the things you checked I would check the cv joints with both the tight turn test and lift the front end and rock the tire.

um it wouldnt be the clutch master cylinder? i wouldnt think so cause it doesnt happen in any other gears. or the clutch cable or whatever hooks that in? might be sticking in some certain position. hmmm damn guess i dont get ten bucks haha

I didnt realize that you dont have aluminum subframe bushings yet. You will love those mounts even more once you install the bushings :naughty:

Dont worry about the mounts, they are not your problem. Although, they are known for making any existing suspension problem that was unknown, very known. Once you start stiffening things up, you will really start to hear sloppy suspension components.

As for the clunk, Id look into the following:

*any obvious movement of exhaust hitting the floor boards?
*sloppy sway bar bushings?
*loose sway bar endlinks?

Also, is the clunk felt ONLY thru the floor? Or can you feel it with the shifter?

Possibilities include that sloppy wheel bearing. Also, disconnect the front sway bar on both ends...tie the components up out of the way and see if the cluck goes away.

Also, the inner fender liner could be mis-aligned and interfering with the movement of the strut...I've seen this before...freaked me out for months. as the suspension traveled, the strut...at the bottom...would catch the edge of the fender liner and bend it...only about a 1/2"...but when it snapped back, against the strut tower, it made a VERY loud clunk.

The best part about this whole mystery is that the cluck is repeatable. Have someone outside the car listening. Have them lay on the ground next to the car when you take off...that will help you pinpoint the location of the noise.

i have energy suspension urethane sbb's and high density links as far as the sway bar so i dont think thats it.....there is no master cylinder lol but thanks....i do not feel anything in the shifter just in the floor and a little in the pedal but that might be placebo...... my exhaust is very close to the rod shifter and with my old broken mounts it would knock right up against it when i let off the gas suddenly and since i installed the notsoslowsho mounts that problem is gone....i think i would feel it in the shifter now if it was the exhause and it feels more near my feet....and the weird thing is it feels like the driverside more than the passenger so i dont think its the wheel bearing.....the wheel bearing doesnt howl or anything yet either... today i decided to replicate the clunk in reverse and take my carbon hood off to look at the motor.....i can here the clunk but the engine has maybe a shutter of movement if any...its solid...i hope it has nothng to do with my diff......i have never done a burn out in this car and never really wailed on it...so....btw the axles have little to no slop

Odd that I find a post fairly new on a symptom I am having as well. Low speed take off...like easying away from my house on my way to work. Clunk...loud enough to take notice. I torqued my SFB's..they were a bit loose but not much, I also torqued my swaybar end links....also a bit loose, but not the cause. MM's are josh's extremes...they are torqued as well. My noise is from the passenger side more than the drivers side. I jacked up the car and wiggled the **** out of the passenger tire....it moves about a bit when I pull and push the wheel at the 12 oclock position. (can't tell if its a mm or 2 or 3, but all I do know is that the drivers side does not do this at all. Its as tight as a button.

Do me a favor and wiggle your drivers side tire in the same manner and compare to your passenger side.

I know you said the strut rod carriers were good but there have been many cases where people thought they looked good but welded them anyway and it took care of their mystery clunks. It's a cheap and quick procedure and may be worth trying if for no other reason then peace of mind.

Front strut mounts. Have also found that one good pothole strike can take out a sway bar end link, you can tell by rotating the link if it turns easily its likely done for and definely causes a clunk on take off. The Windstar units are the ones to substitute there. Jim I had sent you a PM awhile back on the pressure plate, did you see it? - zak
