Problems, Help please.

Two things, I dont know if they're related or not.

I'm consistantly getting 15 MPG. Valves should be in spec, they were only done three thousand miles ago, although, I kind of question my friends procedure when he was putting them back in, but I do trust he did it right. I also did plugs and wires at that time. I dont drive too horribly fast all the time, granted I do get on it fairly often. But, I dont think enough to give me 15 mpg.

Second, after driving my car, if I go to leave again before the car really cools down, say within 20 minutes. When I start the car, sometimes it will run really rough, sometimes it will die, and upon restarting, wont run very long. Check engine light does not come on ever. With warmer weather approaching, I dont want to go someplace, and look like a fool with a horrible running car.

The car is rated at 18mpg EPA city driving. Keep in mind the EPA's idea of city driving is stop and go with no "fun runs". With my driving habits I never got more than 15 miles per gallon with any of my SHOs. Don't worry about the mileage.

This is a common problem among the cars now as they age and sensors wear. You're likely getting too much fuel via leaky O rings around the injectors. If the car has a hard time starting depress the gas pedal completely and let up on it once the car starts. This will remedy the problem until you can replace the seals.

As mentioned, check your codes. You'll also want to check simple things like fuel pressure, t-stat and ECT condition, etc.

make sure your tire pressures are good, how are yor tires? improper tire pressure will help lower your gas mileage....

Both of your problems are mine as well. Especially the second one. But I just posted about a possible bad head gasket...

I seem to have increased my gas milage, however, by not using Sunoco gas. I get a noticable increase in gas milage when I use Mobil or Exxon. Don't know why, and don't care at this point. It's cheaper in this neck of the woods anyway. I haven't tried Shell's new formula yet... seems to be a lot of additives...kinda scketchy...don't know enough about it. So yeah, try a different gas first (shot in the dark, but it works for me).

When's the last time you replaced the plugs and wires? Once I did that, I get 19 mpg in city driving, and I stomp on it a lot!

Yes. Unplug the MAF connector, then remove the two screws holding the sensor in the housing. Blast it off (esp the two hair-thin wires) with contact or brake cleaner (NOT carb cleaner!!). Do not wipe it or even touch it. Put it back. Drive.
