I did a bad thing it seems. Maybe?

Here's the scoop.

Oil change light came on so I decided to have an analysis done.

I had left over still in the garage so I decide to run that as well.

While completing the info notes I could not find my last oil change interval. Went through bank statements to see when I last bought the oil (only 1 place here sells it) and it was 1 year ago almost to the day. It was when my water pump went. :(

16000kms (10000 miles) ago.

Now there is a chance I bought some off kijiji (craigslist up here) as I do recall doing that but can't recall when. I do suffer from some memory issues with time frames (1 year could seem like 3 months to me) sadly.

So there is a chance that it wasn't as long ago as I think but.....

Anyways, here are the tests for what it's worth.

Oil I use exclusively is Total Quartz 9000 5w30.

No lead so that is good. But yeah, iron is really high. Is this a repaired engine or a new engine?

Is this read in the standard ppm for all the elements? Isn't Fe normal under 10ppm?

If so, I'd trade that thing in and get another one!

Ecoboosts tend to run higher in Fe counts than NA. Even so, it is probably 4x as high as the normal-run, and 2-3x as high as hard run EBs for the same mileage. Def out of whack. Let's see if it settles down at the next OC. I have a hard time believing that the parts involved in the repair produce that much Fe, but if coolant was in the oil long enough, we def could be looking at damage. If the car is running fine, I would say check again in 5K or so. Because if it's still running high #s, you know for sure. If the numbers drop substantially, we are all good.

Silicon is an abrasive, and could be from gasketing materials, so hopefully it being out of the system will be the end of that issue.

Only repair has been the water pump/ timing chain.

I do live in Calgary Canada and I do tend to start driving right away sometimes so that's prob a factor.

Yes yes I know better but time is time. :(

Did the water pump start to fail? I'm looking at alot of iron. Chromium too I guess so maybe particulates but.. I don't know. I think driving it around and at about another 3k I would send the oil out again and see what it says. I don't know if I would go a full 5k but that's my paranoia.

You know enough to make the right moves. You sent the oil out to be tested, so you're on top of it more than most.
