Hey all, good to be back. I see the speed to the new forum is good. Kudos to all responsible for getting the forum back online.

Anyways, I am getting a 3.2L motor shipped out, because I don't want to deal with my 3.0L with a bad set of rod bearings, but I want to know what a good compression is for the motor. The guy says that the motor has 90K KM and the compression is 200x4 and 185x2. This was the best one that I have found so far, but the only thing that I am worried about is the 15psi difference with the compression values between those cylinders.

I am getting this motor shipped across the country and I want to make sure that I am getting a good one because it will be a big hassle to send it back if needed. I am picking it up for $1250 CDN delivered to my door. ($900 for motor, and $200 for shipping + taxes = $1250) and I think that I am going to go for it. It isn't the best priced one but it has the best mileage and compression that I have found. I am doing this today, so I need help fast.

Thanks everyone and good to be back!

Depending on who you ask, you'll hear that compression numbers should be within 10-25% of each other. 185 is less than 10% down from 200, so those numbers sound perfectly acceptable. My '90 has a spread closer to 20%, and it still runs great.

Did he say which cylinders were low? Has he turned the crank bolt to ensure that it has not sized? I put a little (very little) oil in the cylinders when I first got my 3.2 through the spark plug holes. Just to make sure the rings are not too hard. Good look with your project. I will be doing a write up soon my 3.2 swap now that it is in the car.

Here is max difference a properly executed compression check should yeild.

Specifications

When inspecting cylinder compression, the lowest cylinder pressure reading must be at least 75 percent of the highest cylinder. Perform compression inspection with engine at normal operating temperature, spark plugs removed and throttle wide open

IOW~that engine passes the compression check.
