doing a 3.2 swap, can i swap the wiring harness from the 95 atx into my 90 sho by hard wiring like you did into the other women?

Ford,

Yes you can; that is what I did. I used the connectors out of the 3.2 wiring harness and just extended the wires to reach the PCM connector's new location behind the passenger seat. I couldn't find wire that matched the colors of the original but I got close. You will have to use the 90 computer though.

Tom, if one is using the X2J (MTX) PCM instead of the D4U1 (ATX) PCM does the PCM connector have to match the specific PCM - realizing that there will be pin differences?

Gerard,

Yes, there are differences, but if you are going to use just the connectors with their pigtails and do your own wiring, it doesn't matter. The plugs are the same, theory is the same.

Tom, I came up with what appear to be some differences. Here's what I have:
  • ATX/3.2 engine with ATX/3.2 engine harness (EH) installed
  • MTX/3.0 PCM and component harness (CH)

Doing my wiring checkout between the two harnesses yielded some interesting results - some of which indicated differences between the 3.2 engine harness and the 3.0 component harness connectors.
  1. (Eng.Front) C126 Grey (EH) connector 5 of 8 wires - match (CH) connector 5 of 8 pins
  2. (Eng.Front) C127 Black (EH) connector 8 of 8 wires - match (CH) connector 8 of 8 pins
  3. (Eng.Rear) Grey (EH) connector 7 of 8 wires - does not match (CH) connector 8 of 8 pins
    1. RD/WT -> RD/WT
    2. GN/RD -> WT/PK
    3. DK BL/GN -> DK BL/GN
    4. WT/RD -> WT/RD
    5. -- -> GN/RD
    6. GY/WT -> GY/WT
    7. YL/RD -> YL/RD
    8. GY/RD -> GY/RD
  4. (Eng.Rear) Black (EH) connector 6 of 8 wires - does not match (CH) connector 5 of 8 pins
    1. DK GN/WT -> OR
    2. BR/WT -> BR/WT
    3. RD/BK -> RD/BK
    4. OR/YL -> --
    5. -- -> BK/GN
    6. -- -> PK/OR
    7. BK/GN -> --
    8. PK/OR -> --
  5. (Eng.Rear) Black (EH) connector 4 of 4 wires - almost matches (CH) connector 4 of 4 pins
    1. RD -> RD
    2. BK/YEL -> BK/YEL
    3. RD/GN -> RD/BR
    4. RD/BL -> RD/BL

Since I don't have the connector pinouts for the 3 rear connectors & don't know where they go, I can't locate them on the PCM pinout list. Also some of the wire colors don't even show up on the PCM pinout list - 3.0 or 3.2

Thoughts, answers?

Could some of the SHO connectors not even go to the motor. Thinking out loud [gets me in trouble] Maybe the go in one connector and out other and maybe go to something. Only thought comes to my mind to looking at unidentified wire colors and see maybe come out somewhere else. Best solution beside opening up the loom. Maurice
Edit does this help at all? Site is I assume spanish but has some wiring diagrams and location diagrams.

Gerard,

Just so that we're all on the same page: "3 rear connectors". On what? The engine's wiring harness? Or the engine compartment's wiring harness that has the 60 pin connector for the PCM?

Remember, two of the connectors on the engine bay harness are not used.

By back of engine, do you mean the side that is closest to the firewall while it's in an SHO or the end that is near the bell housing (which will be the back in your application)?

OK let's start with the two 8-pin connectors at the back of the motor (bell-housing side).

If you look at my listing in post #27, the sockets on the Engine harness don't match the pins on the component harness for both of these, and the wires colors don't match either.

Remember, those are the two that have duplicates on the harness. Did you try their twins?

Tom,

The twins on the component harness are female. These are the males that fit into the females on the engine harness.

Isn't the 8 pin connection have the wiring for water temp gauge and oil pressure? But only explains 2 wires. Can go to the links for year of car and look what colores used for going to gauges. That would explain reason not in wiring diagram for engine. See if 2 of the wire colors go to push on connections for temp and water. I have a 94 harness will check on my mine. Maurice

Gerard,

We had determined that the Compartment harness that you brought down with you was for an MTX, correct?. And now you say that the two plugs on that harness (one black and one grey) that fit into the two (again one black and one grey) matching females on the Engine harness, while fitting together nicely, do not have the same number of wires coming out of the back and the colors don't match? Is that the problem?

Maybe you have the wrong two plugs on the Compartment harness. There are two at the flywheel end of the harness and two right above cylinder 1. The two above the flywheel end I believe are for when the ATX is used, not sure.

Tom, correct. Not only do they not have the same number/color of wires, but component harness (CH) connector's pins don't match the engine harness (HS) sockets. See posting #27.

Maybe you have the wrong two plugs on the Compartment harness. There are two at the flywheel end of the harness and two right above cylinder 1. The two above the flywheel end I believe are for when the ATX is used, not sure.

The two connectors above cyl #1 match wire-to-wire, so I can't have them backwards.

Here's what the two (MTX harness) rear connectors appear to go to. Staring with (Eng.Rear) Grey (EH) connector 8 of 8 wires (C133):
  1. RD/WT - Coolant Temp Sender
  2. LG/RD (ATX):WT/PK (MTX) - ECT Eng Coolant Temp Sensor
  3. DB/LG - O2 #2
  4. WT/RD - Oil Pressure Switch
  5. WT/PK - Empty for ATX, LG/RD for MTX - Low Oil Level
  6. GY/WT - TPS
  7. YL/RD - Knock sensor
  8. GY/RD - IAT, TPS, Coolant TS, Knock Sensor, SPOUT

Next, the (Eng.Rear) Black (EH) connector with 5 of 8 wires (C103):
  1. DG/WT - Empty for ATX; OR (MTX) - VSS (+)
  2. BR/WT - BAP, TPS
  3. RD/BK - O2 #1
  4. OR/YL (ATX):OR (MTX) - VSS (-), Grnd for PCM
  5. empty (ATX): BK/GN (MTX)
  6. empty (ATX); PP/OR (MTX)
  7. BK/GN - PWR Grnd (PCM #60)/MAF
  8. PP/OR - O2 #1 & #2 from Fuse #5

If it was just wire colors it wouldn't be an issue, but there are pins missing from the MTX component harness connectors, so it looks like I will need the back part of an ATX component harness to get the right mating connectors for the engine harness.

Here's the 3.2 PCM harness diagram for reference.

I probably have that. I'll check and see.

Gerard,

Of the two engine compartment harnesses that I have, neither of them have those same colored wires on those two firewall connectors. Can you hold both of those connectors side by side and snap a pic of their pin locations?

Tom, here's the back of each connector, both the male connectors from the MTX component harness.
