I like that idea ...mine are looking pretty lame, too.

I guess there is a little latch that you need to slide out where the head of the wiper arm attaches onto the pivot shaft. Hard to explain in a post ...anyway, this is how removal/installation process is described in my '94 Ford Workshop Manual:

Windshield Wiper Mounting Arm and Pivot Shaft

Removal

NOTE:
To prevent glass and/or paint damage, do not pry windshield wiper pivot arm from windshield wiper mounting arm and pivot shaft with metal or sharp tool.

1. Turn ignition switch to the ACC position. Turn turn signal and windshield wiper switch ON. Allow windshield wiper motor to move the windshield wiper mounting arm and pivot shafts three or four cycles, then turn off the turn signal and windshield wiper switch. This will place the windshield wiper mounting arm and pivot shafts in the park position. Turn ignition switch to the OFF position.

2. Remove the windshield wiper pivot arm and windshield wiper blade by first applying downward pressure on the windshield wiper pivot arm head, while holding the windshield wiper pivot arm. Then lift the windshield wiper pivot arm to the highest position and, using finger pressure only, grasp slide latch tab and slide latch out from under the windshield wiper pivot arm head. Remove windshield wiper pivot arm and windshield wiper blade assembly.

3. To remove the windshield wiper blade, insert a screwdriver into the slot provided at top of the windshield wiper blade frame, push down on spring lock and pull the windshield wiper blade from the windshield wiper mounting arm and pivot shaft.

4. Install the windshield wiper blade onto the new replacement windshield wiper pivot arm.

Installation

1. Position the bottom surface of the windshield wiper pivot arm parallel with the top surface of the cowl vent screen, ensuring the windshield wiper pivot arm rests against the top surface of the cowl vent screen. Install the windshield wiper pivot arm onto the windshield wiper mounting arm and pivot shaft with the latch slide in the unlatched (outward) position. Refer to Installation Specifications.

2. While applying downward pressure on the windshield wiper pivot arm head to ensure full seating, raise the other end of the windshield wiper pivot arm sufficiently to allow the latch to slide under the windshield wiper mounting arm and pivot shaft to the latched position.

3. Lift the (latched) windshield wiper pivot arm and windshield wiper blade assembly away from the top surface of the cowl vent screen and position the windshield wiper pivot arm only on the rearward surface of the windshield wiper arm stop.

4. Ensure the windshield wiper blade is fully seated on the windshield wiper pivot arm and the windshield wiper pivot arm is against (rearward of) the windshield wiper arm stop before operating the windshield wiper motor to verify the correction.

Without being able to look at the diagrams, I think it sounds more complicated then it really is, so I sent you an email with an attached PDF file containing the instructions and diagrams.

Good luck!

got them off pretty easily, the only thing i did different was i stopped them 1/2 way through a cycle, it was easier to get at the pin or what ever holds them on
