Please use a Helms manual to do this properly! Borrow one if you have to. I could give you a step-by-step, and still miss something important. Basically, after removing the subframe and axles, and supporting the engine from above, you disconnect everything connected to the tranny: electrical, starter, shifter cable, speedo cable, torque converter, etc. Then you support the tranny on a tranny jack, and start removing all the bolts that attach it to the motor and to the power steering bracket. Separate it from the motor by about an inch and a half, and lower it out of the car.

yes it is thats what i find easer to do
i do it that way everytime i can pull one in 1.5 hours with a hoist and torches
for the exhuast and air tools. the only thing that may take time is the sub frame bolts.
As i am from Ontario Canada they rust fast.

what did you use to support the engine? i'm going to need to lift the engine anyways to replace the MM's and the subframe bolts should be okay seeing as i can clearly see the head it's dirty but not rusted. besides alsfb's are about a day out os it's no biggie if the bushings get slaged, but i do need thoes bolts...

A transverse engine support is used to properly support the engine from above. Some people use an engine hoist, but I'd never trust one while under the car removing a tranny.

One of these:

Most auto parts chains should be able to order one. Some of the larger, independent stores with larger warehouses will usually have one or two in stock. A couple people have made their own using instructions from Scott Patterson or Josh Texiera.

well so far so good mike i've unplugged almost every connector on the topside of the tranny to give me some more room and i've done everything topside accept for the shifter linkage, the 02 sensors and the supporting. would've done more but it's raining and the car is still outside... :(

kool but you should have shelter i would not wantto get wet doin that
But looks like you havin fun
well at work we use the engine support with chains
never had a problem.
I would make a support from wood like scott did in his 91 when he did
his clutch.
Way cheaper and looks stronger

okay everything is coming along nicely, but what mounts are you talking about? the motor mounts or the mounting bolts that come in on the drivers side that connect the tranny mount bracket to the tranny? and the steering bolts are these the fram to rack bolts or the tie rod end to knuckle bolts?

here's what was accomplished today...
-starter removed
-pan dropped and drained
-tranny cooler removed, drained and cleaned
-front end dissassembled
-tranny lines disconnected
-motor mount nuts removed

tomorrow...
-dissconnect linkage
-remove linkage
-support engine and tranny
-drop front subframe

btw mike you are the f*in man for helping me with this ****. if you ever come down to Va. i'm taking you to a bar on me. or **********. or whatever.

well you have to undo the ball joints from knuckle and they should have enough to swing out but try to get a pry bar to take them out of the trans.
they may be hard to pry on the floor. So don't get frustrated with it. take your time. You got a 95 ax4s trans in there???? you got the computer from the 95??
