So im looking into a 13+ sho . Id like the performance package but its not a deal breaker . Now im checking autotrader and need to know how to tell if the car has the pp. A lot of the dealers probably have no clue and may not list it . Can i plug the vin into anything and have it decoded or see the rpo codes or what ?

If you have the VIN, you can check pretty easy on http://www.etis.ford.com

Look for the 3.16 final drive ratio, dead giveaway. May or not say Performance Package in the listing, but the drive ratio is listed right on top.

That's really the best way. As I and a couple others here have learned, the usual visual giveaways do not always apply. Mine is a pp but does not have the suede wheel or tc disable button. It has the air compressor instead of a spare though. Go figure. Yet why I plug my vin in it comes up as a pp car.

The easiest way is look through the front grille! You can see the oil & tranny cooler lines in front of the radiator!

Seriously? I've seen a few SHO's with the PP style flower wheels, but always thought the PP package without question meant suede steering wheel and TC disable button too. Learn something new everyday!

Seriously. I was certain I did not buy a PP car (and I wanted one). Turns out I got one when I ran the VIN. When I was looking over my car at the dealership I could not for the life of me figure out why it had the compressor but not the button or suede steering wheel. Hey, sometimes fortune smiles.

I'd be curious to know if at one point, Ford offered the package minus those features in the earlier years. Currently and from what I can remember, if you selected the PP option on Ford's website for the SHO, these are what were added:

Enhance the performance of your SHO with the available SHO Performance Package. It features:
• Upgraded performance brake pads
• Sport-calibrated electric power-assisted steering (EPAS)
• Higher-rated springs, tuned shocks, stiffer stabilizer bars and rear suspension to provide a more connected feel between the driver and the road
• Standard AdvanceTrac® electronic stability control (ESC) features a “Track Mode/True Off” setting that delivers a more spirited driving experience
• 3.16 final drive ratio for off-the-line acceleration
• 20” machined and painted wheels with performance summer tires*
• New larger front and rear brake rotors
• Upgraded cooling pack
• Tire mobility kit (in lieu of spare tire)
• Alcantara® suede-wrapped steering wheel

Otherwise, the 20" flower wheels were optional without the PP and I wonder if doing so meant the compressor became standard? Is there a thread about this so I can learn more? And just to be clear, I'm not questioning if you are right or wrong, but just wanting to make sure I know what I'm talking about when I chat cars with others.

I thought at one point someone posted you could look at the data on the door jamb and see if you had axle designations ending in A or B axles to see if it was PP or non-PP

if im not scared of a non pp sho , any reason to stay away from a 13+ lincoln with the ecoboost .I mean the tune is the same and im seeing some lincolns for cheaper than the sho . I think they are coming off leases is whats happening .

A 13+ Lincoln MKS would be a great alternative to the SHO if the price is right. The MKS has an adjustable suspension which the SHO lacks. It also has a number of other features that distinguish it from the SHO. When tuned, they make one heckuva sleeper, that is for sure.

Forgot to mention too on mine - I can completely disable traction and stability controls using the button above the center stack (remember mine is missing the button under the flip up door in front of the shifter). If it wasn't a pp then I wouldn't be able to do that.

Running my VIN definitely shows the pp axle ratio as being on the car.

Prior to buying mine I had driven two other SHO's, one a pp and one non. I remember the pp feeling more glued to the road than the non pp. Mine definitely has the more glued down feeling in the handling.

Here's the relevant part from running my VIN, showing the axle ratio that is on my car.

Not sure what you mean by "center stack"...sorry to sound dumb, but I can disable and enable traction control via the on-board vehicle controls from the steering wheel controls. When I turn off the vehicle with traction control off - it defaults the on position automatically when I re-start the car. I have a 2013 SHO with every possible option. Original owner paid $47K for this car. I got it for $22K with only 19,000 miles at a dealer who had it on trade in. The guy buys a new car ever 2 years like clockwork...must be nice?

Original owner paid nearly $47K for this car. I viewed the sticker online once and it showed a ton of options, but didn't say PP Package. I'll have to check axle ratio. Came with 20s and no spare and they were summer tires. My SHO is also glued to the road like nothing I have ever driven. I drove an Audie S8 once and that's what this SHO feels like...although a tiny bit slower. I have owned a "super-tuned" EVO X. While it was fast and handled like a dream - the SHO is truly better in every way at stock. It's literally glued to the road and the harder you push it - the more it gets down load and grips the road. It's hard to explain unless you've driven one...HARD!
