How much work involved in getting a Gen 3 a new engine?

At a grocery store I saw an ad for a guy locally selling a Gen 3 that "needs engine work." Cam problem I'm assuming. I think the car has about 176k on it. The guy wants $599. Is that a fair price for a non-running Gen 3?
What kind of $$ is involved in a new engine installation?

I think most places could do this in a day. But this is also the time for a alternator change out and to inspect the A/C lines as well as removal of the radiator for exterior cleaning. IMHO

Then there are struts, PS rack, bushings and other things that can much more easily be dealt with at this time.

Never paid anybody to pull an engine. Last time I did it though took me 4 hours to get it out and like 6 more to get the other one in and running. Would be easier on a non-supercharged car and also if I had a garage with :bonk: a lift.

Get in touch with Kirk and see if he's got a replacement motor and how much. His will likely have the cams taken care of. Then you can get an idea of total cost for the car. I'm thinking you might break even on average sale value of a running car. Again it depends on the motor cost.

I wouldnt think it would be all that difficult to do. We had my engine out of the car and off the subframe the last time we did the tranny swap. I would say a day or two at most.

Call a reputable salvage yard. You will get atleast a 30 day warranty just incase the motor is damaged. Salvage yard 3.4s are about $1500.
