How much should a clutch job cost me on a 93 mtx?

A lot, lol.

I just did a clutch job, because I had to replace the trans because of the cracked case. The new clutch kit was $230 at the parts store and I had 20hours in the garage. Basically everything in the front end was removed, entire subframe, suspension, etc.

Granted this was my first time attempting this and I probably could have cut corners here or there, I did all the bushings/suspension bits while I had it apart so that added some time, but still, I'm pretty sure book time is 10-12 hours.

So yeah...

I had mine replaced once on my 2nd SHO. AAMCO did it and I remember it being a little over 1200 bucks. I got kinda hosed now that I think about it.

I charge $750 labor. Plus whatever clutch you want added to that.

Sounds reasonable. IIRC, I paid my local shop $650 back in '03 for a SHO clutch. The LGT clutch install this past July was $575, but it's basically like a RWD install.

just so you guys know the real numbers,
r/r clutch and pressure plate is 6.6 hours
r/r flywheel in addition is 0.4 hours
resurface flywheel is 0.5 hours
total book time is 7.5 hours
therefore, $750 labor is exactly on.

Best advice find someone local and see if they will help you, if no dice then you're looking at paying some decent coin to have it done...

And if you guys think thats a killer deal, ask James about his 9.99 **** job.

 No Thanks! Might be great service and all w/extras that others don't do and he does, but still too far to go.
BTW, are you speaking from experience? :angelnot:

Probably should. atleast some. Cost me that at a tranny shop back in '97, doubt it would be less than $750 now and that might be tough to find at a reputable shop. If I lived closer I'd maybe have you do mine for that instead of messing with it myself.

My local tranny shop charges around $1200, which is above the avg. cost. I called to get a quote so I'll know when mine does go. They're not the cheapest around here, but they do know their stuff. They put trannies in both mine and my brother's Acuras and my friend's F-150.

Keep in ming though, that those numbers are on cars that are assumed to be under warranty...IE...not 20 year old rust buckets.

R/R clutch and pressure plate: 6.6 hours + however long it takes you to replace exhaust manifold studs, rear main seal, etc...+ the extra supplies for that. I spent $60 picking up a fresh tube of loctite, some mapp gas, RTV, and brake cleaner.

The stuff adds up. $750 in labor is a good deal. I guarantee there will be things popping up like subframe bushings or a rear main seal or ball joint...motor mount. all of the above, as in my case.

Anyone quoting prices should include the rear main seal, I'd say.
