Your intake properly. Im talkin all the carbon build up in the runners because i know my old ones have a good amount....I want them spotless. not sure if the ones on the car are as bad but im sure they cant be too much better. I figure ill finish painting this intake after i clean it and clean up the engine bay a little. But what should i do...soak them in degreaser...carbon cleaner...just say F it and work hard and get a couple hundred together and have them ported (i wish it were that easy!)

Non chlorinated CRC brakleen (green can) It will take it off and it will be as clean as the day it was made.

Thanks..ill have to do some shoping. And its ok if the paint comes off...needs redone anyway. Ya know? spare intake has been handled like one so the paint is chipped...sexy color scheme tho. dont know if it will work on the white sho but i might try anyway

I'm a fan of brake cleaner. Only for price. The three intake cleansings i have done were always carb cleaner... the crazy part is "hearing" the difference... my motor actually changed pitches as the intake is 50% of the sound the car makes.. my opinion with 4-5 millimeters of PCV diameter buildup. I should hang a disclaimer about the sound... it was my own opinion.

I used berrymans and baby bottle brushes, but I've seen a lot faster results with Easy Off oven cleaner. If I do it again, I'm cleaning the oven.. :)

i used brake cleaner as well and i definitely noticed a change in intake sound afterwards. louder and deeper.

Yea buy several bottles of that chemtool and spray it into the intake so that it puddles up. Then take a wire brush (or dremel with a soft brush attachment) and grind those hard carbon deposits down. The oily coating that covers the rest of the intake will come off just by spraying it down with the chemtool. Let dry in the sun for a few minutes and reinstall :)

pffft. sonic cleaning and porting works well :)

nah i just use a ton of brake clean and carb cleaner usually, and some elbow grease. Sonic cleaning is too expensive for what I do 99% of the time

I've found a foaming citrus cleaners work good. Anymore I shy away from the cancer in a can brake cleaner/chemtool stuff.

Citral degreaser 2

Is it possible to do a decent job of cleaning the intake without completely disassembling it? Any risk to the butterfly valves from solvents/detergents?
