How do I remove the back seats? Replacing fuel pump

Well im almost done now but...the sock filter is shaped a little bit differently, and wont fit the same way as the old one. Its hitting up against the little shroud thats inside the tank. Any advice?

I dont think the new pump is any taller, but it feels like the sock is hitting up against the bottom and wont let it go down any farther. This is driving me nuts.

I had to trim the tubing a bit to get the 190 lph pump to fit. I recall others mentioning the same thing. Just use a Dremel and trim a little at a time until it fits.

Jeez louiz, this thing just doesnt like me. I have the new pump in now, new fuel pump inertia switch, new battery (was dead), and it still wont run, I cant hear the pump turn over, what the heck is going on? Tomorrow im gonna start checking the voltage on everything.

Im gonna test that tomorrow also, it should have been one of the first things for me to check, but the life of the pump was fading anyways, so it was good to replace it. Autozone and O' Reilly's dont stock the fuel pump relay at all, like its not in their inventory, and Ford gave me the wrong part last time I asked for one, so I need to go complain to them and have them get me the right thing. Sigh, I just wanna drive my SHO.

Whn you go to the auto parts store, don't call it the fuel pump relay, call it the radiator fan control module. Should bring up a Factory Air or Ready Aire number. I know both A-Z and Advance can get them. About $120.

Be sure to test the fuel pump relay portion of the CCRM with a DMM. projectsho89 has posted the testing procedures previously, run a search to locate them. Or, find a friend with an MTX SHO (except '89) who will let you borrow their good CCRM for a few minutes to install in your car and see if that fixes things.

Well it is the CCRM, about 200 bucks from Ford, time to hit the junkyards. Its quite possible this was my original problem even, o well, least I have a ton of new parts now.

It would be better to drop out the tank to repair the fuel pump, however to pay $400 to $500 to have this repair done is an economically unreasonable expense for most. Those of us who can do this job may opt to cut the floor pan for access-if the temp. is below -0, resources may not availiable to provide heated space for the repair. If cutting a hole in the floor to access the pump, caution is needed to assure the plastic lines are not cut. It would be best to go to the bone yard and cut out a larger piece of floor out of another taurus and screw it down over the opening to restore the integrity of the body structure. If one knows where to cutout the access out of the floor, this job can be done in about 15 minutes and hundreds saved.
