How do I remove my back seats so I can get access to the gas tank? I have my Chiltons, and the dang thing shows how to remove everything BUT the seats. Anyone know how or where the bolts are?

Haha I found 88 cents when I took the seats out. Yes the easiest way though is to just cut yourself a panel. My friend and I used a dremel. You can look at this link here and you can see where you have to cut on the passenger side.95mtxshobuild:
Just another question to add to this topic. I just bought one of the 190 high volume fuel pumps. I dont have a manual. Have heard about poeple cutting a area underneath the seat cushion. Is that the rightwasy to do it for these cars? Or are you suppose to drop the fuel tank? I know how tyo remove the seat. (never know what or how much $$ you'll find under there.. lol
Thanks
What minuses are there?luigisho:
The correct way to do it is to drop the tank from under the car.
Some of us have cut an access panel for ease of returning to that area in the future, for the ease of doing it with only 1 set of hands, and for rust considerations so the fasteners and straps won't break. There are minuses to cutting a hole so make your best judgement on this avenue.
Yea I was afraid of that, how big of an effect is it though?SHOman247:
it weakens the structure on the car since the body is the frame on a unibody car
You've got to be kidding from that access hole? Ford Contour's come from the factory with this same access hole. If anyone is still concerned install Subframe connectors and STB's on your SHO.SHOman247:

I'd say not very much as the access panel is not that large. I have noticed no drawbacks to doing this modification and when I actually get my pump replaced it will be a breeze.ALWyzBrknSHO:

I know you are going through the back seat, but for those looking to your thread for help on installing the Walbro, here is a nice link to SHO Times FAQ on dropping the fuel tank. Includes nice photos.NotSoSlowSHO:
The only real drawback I can see is related to a rear end collision.
I like the idea of having a quick and easy way to swap pumps, but I also hate the idea of providing a very nice entrance for fumes and fuel to enter the cabin in the event of a crash.
I have considered cutting a panel, but as rust free as my SHO is, Im just going to drop the tank shrug
