In my '93 SHO ATX when I put my air conditioning on max AC and turn it all the way down pushing the blue button it only goes to 60 degrees. I was wondering why the AC only blows air as cold as 60 degrees, that is almost as warm as it is outside! Is there a secret I don't know about the airconditing because I would sure like it to be colder than 60. Any help will be much appreciated

i suppose the engineers figured humans would be content in an environemnt between 60 and 90 degrees :p

but if it's 60 out, just press that little puppy marked "off" and crack the windows if you're getting too toasty at 60 *halo*

I don't know if your jokin around or what but, if your air is working properly it will blow out much colder than 60.

yea, the refridgerant in your AC system should get mighty cold..and on a hot day, the air coming out of your vents should remind you of standing infront of your freezer with it running at full tilt..

i was surprised; i turned my AC on yesterday for the first time since last summer..and it's still damn cold, and i had the EATC set to 70..

well it got down to 70 plenty quick in my car..almost made me forgive it for all the nasty things it usually does to me..

The temp on the screen is not the temp of the air coming out of the vents. Ok, when you put the EATC to 60, it will be at full cold and when you put it at 90 it will be a full hot (in these max settings it will continue at full hot or cold regardless of the temperature inside the car). Anything inbetween is the temperature that you desire the inside of the car to be. So, when you have it set at 70, and it is hot outside it will use the AC to cool the car to 70, but if it is cold it will use the heater to make the car's interior temp 70. Make sense?

a proper operating A/C system on R134a should blow about 35-40 degrees from the vents. my friend is an A/C tech and his truck actually blows ice crystals out of the vents occassionally. when this happened, he checked the temperature and it was a chilly 14 degrees.

when i had a thermometer in my vent, it only got to 50 degrees before the compressor locked up. on the other end of the scale, with full heat, it was 130 degrees from the floor vents.

I've been told a 40F drop from ambient is the minimum you should get.
