My temp gauge was almost always at the 1/4 end near the cold end. I recently got my car fixed and the temp gauge is now normally gets up to the middle quicker - but has been no getting closer to the Hot point. Been running my AC at high temp to cool the engine down.

When I got my car fixed (they did some dash work) the temp gauge was 180 degrees to the other side - I had them fix it.

Do you think my high temp is them screwing with the gauge? if not, what causes the temp. to rise that so much?

I dont know how to answer your question, but running your AC will not cool your engine. It actually makes your engine work harder and heat up more. Running you heater is what will take heat off your engine and cool it down.

Sorry, if you run the vehicle with the auto or floor on, the aux fan will kick on in front of the radiator helping it to cool..

What does this mean?

If they didn't change either the thermostat or the temperature sender, then yes, it must have been from removing the dash. It can only be that the gauge is reading differently rather than the engine at a higher temperature. For information, there are two thermostat temperatures: 180 degrees (MTX) and 194 degrees (ATX).

Jeremy is correct. Any climate control setting other than VENT or FLOOR will cause the radiator cooling fan to run constantly and bring in more cooling air to the radiator, resulting in a cooler running engine. If you are at highway speeds it isn't necessary because there is already plenty of air flowing through the radiator.

The A/C compressor will run intermittently in these settings, but you can get the same effct by pressing the AUTO button and then the VENT (or FLOOR) button immediately. The fan will run for about 2 minutes before shutting off (if the engine colant temp is below the fan turn-on temperature).

This is exactly the opposite of what Snowwind is doing now.....it seems to get hotter and hotter the higher the speed.
No one has been able to figure out this problem..I have repeated asked the Houston club to change out the t-stat to see if it would help. I will go to a rad. shop and have them do it I guess. I will have to stand there and make sure they are doing it without breaking anything, since Snowwind is getting so fragile. Martin did help change out the t-sensor over two months ago. Since then I have just not driven him. The one time I did he threw a CE light but no codes. That happened again at low speed driving. Am only driving right around the apt. complex since I am afraid of break down. Even going around one time, the CE light came on again.
Got me puzzled, but apparently the guys down here are too busy for the problem. If I ever figure this one out I will sell the results. George Fourchy can't figure it out either. We have had numerous e-mails about what it could be. However, this problem appears unique to Snowwind, no doubt a "highest mileage" situation. So I am in a category of one there.

I was told that running your A/C on high temp (like 80) will put two fans on - thus cooling the engine. It has worked so far, but man, it get's hot in my car.
is that not right?

sorry for lack of explanation -

when I say it was 180 degrees to the other side. I have a 93 MTX - Temp gauge is on the right side of the dash (while looking at it from the driver side) It points to the right to show hot or cold. When I got my car back after the dash work, it was pointing to the left - basically pointing to the speedomoter...does that make sense? I had them fix it - but now the car runs hot. I wonder if it was messed up before and then when they went to fix it, now it actually reads the right temp? who knows..

You say run anything but VENT or FLOOR to cool but I thought someone else posted to USE VENT or FLOOR to cool? did I read that wrong?

I just installed an A pillar gauge (thanks IPT :) ) with a coolant temp sensor and have found that the stock gauge is very innacurate and it operates in a very small temperature window. When my fan came on the gauge would drop the needle down about two letters, but now that I have the gauge with numbers :) I see that the drop is only about 5 degrees. So it seems that your stock gauge is only about a 15-20 degree window. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong. My suggestion? Go for an aftermarket gauge. You will be a lot happier.

The electonic climate control will cause the A/C compressor to run (as needed) in the following settings: MAX A/C, PNL FLR, FLR DEF, defrost and AUTO. The A/C compressor will not run in the VENT and FLOOR settings.

The MTXs have only a single large radiator fan. The ATXs have the two, staged cooling fans.
