My car has been making the oddest noise lately. It sounds like a metal grinding type of noise while the car is moving. It makes the noise while decelerating, but it dissapears under accelleration. It also dissapears when turning tot he right, but comes back when turning to the left. i just replaced the wheel bearing on that side last year, and i dont see anything physically that could be rubbing, like the brake dust shield. I can't seem to figure this out.

Oh, another odd thing about this is that if i let the car sit for a while, like a couple of days, the noise won't be there at all untill i drive around for a while.

Uh thats odd. I would check the wheel bearings again anyway. Did you install a new hub when you changed the bearings? Maybe you can jack up the car and turn the wheels when its making this noise.

Nah i didnt change the hub when i changed out the bearing. However, the hub isnt stock, neither is the spindle. its off of a continental actually, however ive had them on the car for over 3 years so i doubt its just deciding to make this noise now because of that. But i cant seem to replicate the noise while i have the front wheels in the air

I would defiantly check the bearings then, its recommended to change the hub when a bearing goes in the front as if the old one is distorted new bearings won't last long.

the pads should be alright, although i belive the noise started sometime after i changed the front pads...
i thought wheel bearings made constant noise, not just under deceleration or something?

Bump,

SHOrespect or SnickterP - - you guys ever find the cause of this? My 1995 does this and I need to fix it before I sell it.

Thanks!

I dont know how loud yours is but i had what sounded like a metal dragging sound and it was the front brake hanging up.
