Yup.

But my "oh shit" moment occurred on an expressway (somewhere down in Mexico wink wink ) when I clipped past 150+mph.

Flash forward that same day, I was on the phone with my local body shop, and less than 2 weeks later..... hood pins!

Definitely scary when that primary latch let's up and one envisions their hood flying end over end only to end up lying on the pavement behind. Luckily my secondary held as I was decelerating.

Whew.

Not to me. Hood pins look easy to install if you want to do a simple visual mod.

They were far from easy to install and they serve a functional purpose.

In fact my body shop said "never again" it was such a PITA for them.

Besides alignment and assuring hood closed/opened properly, they also had to hammer out/flatten out this crease formed into the frame member where the front quarters are mated to just to get the pin to sit in the necessary vertical position to line up with the hole in the hood.28af239827757ec1ca2caf1731aa7845

Hood pins are like a 1.5 out of 5 in the difficulty to install range. If you are unsure how to line them up, watch a YouTube video on the grease trick. I mounted my flush mount pins in maybe 30min

It would be a twisting motion that is not on the same plan as the direction of the latch to detach.

I watched Woman Driven on youtube put them on her Hellcat and she said it was not too hard. Sounds like the Taurus has some complicating factors.

This happened to me today.

I replaced the head lights yesterday so I had the hood open for that.

I was dropping my daughter off at school this morning and noticed my hood was on the second latch. I got out and pushed the hood back down and it locked.

I then hopped on the highway and 20 minutes later the hood pops up again. I got behind a box truck and excited off the next ramp.

I pulled into a lot and examined the latch. I made sure I didn't leave any tools or miss any screws/bolts. I couldn't find any issues.

I did a good slam on the hood and drove back down the highway with no issues.

I guess I'll monitor this issue and see if I can troubleshoot some more.

That or leaving a shattered windshield and a giant dent in the top of the A-pillar frame.
