Hey guys, so i've been thinking about getting brighter bulbs, but i'm almost completely ignorant when it comes to it. Any reccomended bulbs and how they look? I also just got headlight tint because I like the way it looks, but during nighttime, there has been a very slightly dim in brightness. Any ideas?

The stock lamps are D3S lamps.

There are upgrades- Philips XV2 (Xtra Vision 2), Osram Xenarc CBB (cool blue boost), and Osram Xenarc Nightbreaker Laser all claim to put out more light at the same 35W power level as stock.

I listed them from cheapest to most expensive. There are a couple comparisons on Youtube where they take lux readings.

The CBBs are nowhere near the 7000K they advertise, just a bit whiter than the other two actually. The Xenarc Lasers are crazy expensive, but have tested to output the most lux on low beam. (No actual lasers involved, other than in manufacturing for the record).

I think I'm going to put in the CBBs at some point to match the LED running light a little closer.

Whatever you do stay clear of LED!! The absolute best bulbs are the Phillips Xtreme Vision D3S bulbs! They've been tested against all other HID bulbs out there and they are the brightest (LUX & Lumens) and the most white color. Here's just one video of the comparison:

How much did you pay for your Phillips 5ks?

I need to update my signature, they're actually 4800k and they are the Xtreme Vision bulbs. HID Concept has the best prices and they price match. Think maybe $190 for pair.

Cool, thanks.
I know they are usually rated around 2500 hours of life, any idea how long that translates as far as life expectancy in years?

Be careful of where you buy, there are counterfeit bulbs. I have used The Retrofit Source in the past. I have a set of Osram CBIs that I haven't had a chance to put in the SHO yet. Stay away from higher Kelvin rating as you typically lose output as you stray away from pure white.

Lots of variables to really say, how many hours do you spend driving with the headlights on? HID bulbs can last well over 10 years however they do lose brightness with use so it's typically better to change them before they fail entirely.

Not true. The Nightbreaker Lasers have higher lux readings. You pay for it, but they are brighter.

This is true but they are standard 4300k with that yellow look. So again, the best overall bulb for lux brightness and white color outs Phillips Xtreme Vision.

No- lux is lux is lux is lux. Color temp has nothing to do with intensity. Go look it up.

The Lasers have the most lux, they are the brightest- period.

Sorry, I see you are saying you just visually prefer the higher color temp. That's fine. I do too. The lower temp lamp will perform better in rain and snow though, so there's that...
