I was sitting in the drive through with the ac on. It was 60s outside and the temp spiked but then returned to normal once i started going and stayed steady. Got home and popped the hood and found this. Where is the tstat in our cars. Could this be why my heat isnt working as well?6d2d97b7b3dca8ffc0a1b48b7641419aBb721f38d55d4b9ac867c40e7675ad29

Coolant leak? If the coolant level in the degas bottle drops, yes, that can affect cabin heat performance.

Recently one member had a similar situation in which replacing a cracked hose was the solution. He put it on video.

It looks like the spray is pressure relief from the cap. My thought is the coolant got too low and it got hot and caused it to build pressure

From the looks of the picture I would guess it shot up out of the reservoir. Fyi, thermostat is on right side of front of motor, to the right and a little closer to firewall from your front rightmost spark plug.

Did the gauge spike or were you looking at something that monitors the core engine temps? My Blue Driver will show the temp go up when sitting in traffic as well. But never much over 210-215 on a hot summer day.

Keep an eye on it. The 5.0L has known leaks from o rings that shrink in the coolant hoses and can leak very little as the coolant cools down and the rubber o ring shrinks a little.

Also bring your SHO to the Pavilions this weekend. I will be there and I can check out your SHO and give you some pointers on what to look for with these cars.

Pull the engine apearance cover, lock at the block above the alternator. There is a plug with a small hole above it. That's the weep hole for the water pump.
