I just bought a 93 SHO ATX from a friend at our church a week ago and I absolutely love it....but last night while in the wendy's drive-thru, I had it in Park and went I went to put it in drive the gear-box wouldn't move at all. The clutch button on the side wouldn't click all the way and I almost broke the gear stick from jerking it around. I had it towed and was wandering if anyone else has experienced this before...

Brake on/off switch is a good place to look first.

If you hit the brakes and your brake lights don't illuminate, the switch may be faulty. If the switch is bad, it won't release the shift interlock, and well you know the rest.

As a work around, turn the key to the off position (between lock and ACC), PRESS THE BRAKE FIRMLY, shift to neutral, and then start the car. It'll at least allow you to get around until you can correct the brake switch issue.

It wouldn't move from park at all, not even into neutral....sorry, I forgot to say that, but I was so mad...

Some ATX owners should chime in soon. I believe it's an easy fix.

...because the shift interlock was engaged. When engaged, you cannot press the release button fully to move from park.

This is a problem that affects all Taurus' since 1990, and the workaround is as described. Now, if you follow the instructions in that workaround, and still cannot depress the button fully, you may have a larger problem.

Let us know how it goes.

thanks it was that but the pin that is in that whole brake-system was screwy so that was the reason it wouldn't move at all...THANKS...I recently smoked a 2000-something honda accord EX....but I usually hate racing, it was a friend who was asking for it since I bought the SHO...

Glad to hear you fixed the problem. Out of curiosity, where in Virginia are you located? I'm from Richmond originally and I also have a '93 ATX :) Welcome to SHOForum

I live right beside the Martinsville Speedway, so I highly doubt I'll see you on the road anytime soon...
