Hi, I just put on a new belt and tensinor and now when i crank the engine the belt slids over almost off the cam gears about a quarter inch i think the belt would come all the way off if it wasnt for the brace on the balancer. It looks like its the tensinor is cocked in there maybe from the spring becuase i didnt know which way to install it. But i installed it so that when you go clockwise on the allen it tightens the spring. I need help becuase iam stuck right now so any advise would be great.

I am not 100% sure what you mean, but sounds like the tensioner is on wrong, or maybe it's bad and slightly crooked causing the belt to slid off. Got any pics? that might help.

EDIT: Dumb question, did you loosen the tensioner nut yet, to allow tension to be applied to the belt?

Is the belt under proper tension? You have to loosen the adjuster, adjust the pulley to put tension on the belt, then retighten the adjuster.

Did you install the guide washer on the crankshaft inside the lower timing cover? The flared edge of the washer is curved away from the timing belt. If left off, the timing covers will only be a temporary impediment to the belt working its way off the sprockets.

The washer behind the harmonic balancer is a belt guide and keeps the belt from running off the front of the sprockets. When you forget to reinstall it, the belt tries to cut thru the timing covers and walk off the front of the pulleys.

Seen it once or twice.

Hint: Get a cheap digital camera you won't mind getting grease on, and take pictures as you disassemble. Makes reassembly so much easier. These photos may show what you need to see.

Thanks everyone and great pics but the spring on the back of the tensioner as a little bend on it and that bend slipped behind the tensioner as i was installing it so it got stuck behind the it making it cocked. thanks again.
